Re the midfield, would it help if Hughes had more playing time? His pace isn't great, but at least he doesn't shy away from tackles.

We can't afford to have two flaky players as his midfield partners no matter how good they are on the ball - we need to have the ball first before they can show their skills with it. Like last week - put the right type of ball into the box and our strikers will prosper. Hope Edouard can get a run going now and build up his confidence.
It seems we took a gamble and went all-in on Gallagher becoming available. I have a suspicion that even in September we were still taking a gamble that he wouldn't get games at Chelsea and would become available in January. Unfortunately he does seem to be getting enough appearances at Chelsea to justify staying for some time yet. I suspect we've moved on now so maybe there's someone awesome out there who costs not a lot. Also, regarding Doucouré - he's only played 8 premier league games. Look at how long it took Partey and Xhaka to learn how to boss a midfield.

I think Leeds will be bottom three or thereabouts and it was a massive three points. The bench again spelled out how hard this season is going to be. Aside from the obvious when he got caught I find the criticism of Guaita's kicking a bit of a head scratcher when he's put under pressure by such terrible back passes and the defence as a whole looked so panicked early on. I'm disappointed by the impact of Doucoure. He doesn't seem particularly effective when we don't have the ball, doesn't seem to protect it very well under pressure or quick to pick out a forward pass. He rightly got hooked against Chelsea after letting Gallagher go a couple of times. Defensive mid is the easiest position on the pitch in the modern game IMO. Edited by Rachid Rachid Rachid (09 Oct 2022 8.42pm) How can you be disappointed with doucoures impact , he’s been pure class since he came in. His role is one you don’t notice unless you’re focusing on him. But that’s why it’s so useful. Yes , today it wasn’t his best performance but every other game he’s done a class job.

Plays too many square or backward balls. He's been ok but pure class is a real stretch in my opinion. And not being noticed playing centre mid is hardly a plus point. We played with the same set up last week with Eze and Olise in front of him. Most of our problems today came when we had possession in our own third rather than Leeds bringing the game to us. Whilst enjoying a tipple or two with my dear wife in a Public House tonight I mentioned that we would not be out had we been defeated. Her response was that when we suffer such a fate misery attaches to me akin to fungus to a dying tree.

Just wanted to mention - Something happened at the back yesterday, or Vincente saw something that needed reporting to PV - on about 15 minutes (just after their goal) Vincente said something to a ball boy who took it directly to the dug out - maybe that had something to do with his wayward clearances for a short time ?

PVs post match comments on Eze after the game,"There's still much more to come from Ebs," Vieira said. "I think he used to play a little bit on the left-hand side, and at the moment he is playing more centrally. "He just needs to find the right position, to be a little bit more high on the field, because he has the ability to score goals and to create chances, so it was a good performance from him and he's getting better and better." Err, number 10 role, heres a clue its already on his back

Sorry, to be clear (as probably the only poster to critcise him), my observations regarding Doucoure aren't based purely on today. He's generally tidy but I think it's an exaggeration to say he's been doing it on his own over the course of the seven games this season. I expected a bit more based on some of the narrative surrounding his signing and taking him off today for Luka didn't see to upset things much. Edited by Rachid Rachid Rachid (09 Oct 2022 10.09pm) This is the expectations of some when we buy a player with a good reputation. We have to remember we are 'just below mid table' Crystal Palace, not the top six. This is our level. CD is a great player for such a team as us, but he would probably not get onto the bench of a Chelsea or Arsenal, certainly not start. On that basis, I think he has been a great addition to the first 11.
