Interesting comments but I still fail to see why a new stand can't mirror the style of the Holmesdale without increasing the current footprint of the old stand. Make it two tiers with modern facilities and the job is done. What, like the "modern facilities" (sic) in the Holmesdale?

This is a little bit disturbing, if true . . . [Link] Thoughts/observations?
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

Still Spurs managed to “get rid “ of a local business (allegedly) and Liverpool “persuaded” householders nit to object (allegedly) Not sure how these things work but surely local residents can’t be banned from such a meeting.

My sceptical side says are the residents trying to eek out more compensation? I really do feel it is time to look elsewhere, every home game I drive past Purley Way/Croydon Airport, this is going to rack and ruin. Could we develop here? Transport/road links not ideal but not insurmountable

They are council tenants and beyond getting another council house nearby, I'm not really sure they should be getting anything other than moving costs. If they owned the houses - well and good.

The way the redevelopment of central Croydon is going, there is enough empty space to build a bloody massive stadium in the centre of town! Let's face it something needs to be done to save Croydon as Westfield are clearly looking at nowhere near as big a development as first thought!

The Les Parry mentioned in the article seems a bit of an activist and a member of the Croydon Tenants Association.

My comments were partly a joke and partly a comment on the mess that is the 'regeneration' of the town centre. I am Croydon born and bred and have come back to work in the town centre in the last few years. I still remember when Croydon was, a real destination, but now it is a crumbling ghost town. The shops are shut the place stinks and even Wetherspoons are shutting pubs and moving out. They have knocked down so much particularly around say Park St so why not explore if there is some scope somewhere in the rubble to do something? Edited by orpingtoneagle (11 Aug 2022 9.19am)

Edited by orpingtoneagle (11 Aug 2022 9.19am) Spent many a lunchtime in the Whitgift Centre and Fairfield Halls gardens. Now only drive through the place to get to Selhurst. My future son-in-law came to Montpellier game, he seemed horrified at Croydon and he is from the NW
