JP is not the finished article, his control with his back to goal is still poor and this is what was exposed when he first came. However, he also has some real strengths and the team are now playing to his strengths. His work-rate and enthusiasm are a real contrast to what we've been used to and long may it continue. I think he’s always going to be gangly and awkward with a poor touch, but that’s what makes him so difficult to play against I suppose, but what also didn’t help his cause when he first came in is that Roy thought Benteke was better, but thankfully PV has sussed him out for the lazy arse that he is. As someone said earlier, Mateta always Puts a shift in which is good enough for me

He's in govt it is his problem. He needs to own it. Yawn....

I think the problem with Tekkers is that he lacks anticipation or imagination. He doesn't seem to look for potential space in the penalty area where he can pick up a cross or a pass. Mateta is now repaying PV's faith in him, trying things out and expressing himself in the same way as our other dazzling forwards and midfielders: Olise, Gallagher, Eze etc.

Absolutely, what his has demonstrated is that is coachable, and has bought into the way we want to play. Lets also remember that in todays day and age he is pretty cheap, so lets be reasonable with what we can expect from him. He's never going to be Harry Kane.

We lost the toss and Connor kicked off for us. The tradition of playing towards the Whitehorse in the first half was established back in pre-history. I can't be the only old codger who remembers starting at the Whitehorse end for every game and traipsing along the old embankment at half-time to stand at the other end. I assume that the longevity of this practice means that successive Palace managers believe that it helps the team. I personally have no opinion, but what has often puzzled me is that opposition teams, who on average must have won 50% of the tosses over the years, have mainly gone along with what has been our preferred option.

He's in govt it is his problem. He needs to own it. Not aimed at me, but... First of all, I am far to the left in my views traditionally. I have never voted Conservative, nor will I ever vote Conservative. I voted Liberal Democrat only once, and that was on the basis of "better than Bliar". Even that was hard. Second, I loathe Boris, as you would expect, with every fibre of my being. But third, I'm capable of thinking for myself, rather than following tropes, party line or otherwise. With all that said, and for probably the first time ever, I agree with what Boris said today on the transgender issue in sport today: "I don't think biological males should be competing in female sporting events. Maybe that's a controversial thing to say, but it just seems to me to be sensible. I also happen to think that women should have spaces - whether it's in hospitals, prison or changing rooms - which are dedicated to women. That's as far as my thinking has developed on this issue. If that puts me in conflict with some others, then we have got to work it all out. It doesn't mean I'm not immensely sympathetic to people who want to change gender, to transition and it's vital we give people the maximum love and support in making those decisions." Those words seem eminently sensible to me. They also don't sound like zero support.

Being married with a daughter this is something I have very strong views on,if that makes me stupid, so be it, I prefer to call it protective.
