I think he was aiming for the top corner and got a bit lucky. But he had tried something similar earlier, when he hit a volley in the same direction but it went high over the bar. These players have tricks which they practise and practise and then try them during a match. He played a version of the trick in the Cup at Millwall, when he curled a low one for the Palace opener and then hit the post with the same trick shortly afterwards. Wilf's current trick is the one where he cuts outside the defenders and curls it in at the far post - that's how he scored at Norwich, and he's been trying it again since then.

What you say is a trick is a shot - cutting in from one side and shooting naturally gives the ball a bit of curve. Olise regularly utilises this.

Can't believe this thread is still going

I suspect the reason this post is still going is because the response to it seems to be in two distinct camps. None of us has the slightest idea whether he mis-hit it or not but half of us are rejoicing in what we've witnessed and the other half are Corinthian luddites who read Henry Newbolt and would prefer the Palace to be far from the top table.
And as to folk refusing to believe that anything new can possibly be developed I must say that that is the most patronising and bewildering part of all.

When I was a kid we played with a laced up leather ball that got waterlogged in the rain. Just getting it in the air was a feat, and heading it was not for the faint hearted.
That was before plastic footballs existed which used to have a mind of their own when you kicked them.
These super dooper modern day balls are light and do all sorts of things. Combine them with modern boots and pitches and there will be a whole load of tricks to come.
With players like Olise, Zaha, Ebz etc. who knows what we’ll see next.
One thing for sure is they will all be trying to emulate that Olise stunt and more in training.
Exciting times.

Or Wembley Trophy which had a habit of getting scarred before bursting.

A fair few of us do reg…it was a total miss kick.

And the reason it is still going, is because you won’t let it go!

Fair enough Phil, it's run its course and the jury's still out I spose. Get back to he when he does it at Wembley old boy. Till then, bonjour!

No one can be 100% sure it was a miss kick, or equally that it was deliberate.

Good question, I was just about to ask the same! If Olise said he meant it, that is good enough for me. He does not look like a footballer, does not act like one but OMG, what a trillion-boy footballer. Love him to pieces....
