Marc Guehi is starting to remind me of Des Walker (some may need to Google him). A really good Forest and England centre back who was not the tallest. He had an air of class about him, was very hard to beat on the ground and did well in the air. I am of a certain vintage and recall the outstanding exploits of Des Walker.

Guehi was outstanding, shouting and organising the team at set plays, He should be permanent Captain now. He's not exactly 'unsung' but he probably doesn't get talked about so much because he does his job perfectly and with such ease you sometimes don't notice. Calm headed and intelligent, he also has a great tendency to be in attacking mode a lot and his three goals (is that correct?) demonstrate that. The fact that Maguire cost £80 million and Guehe was £18 million is hilarious. Not just permanent captain here, but maybe even England one day.

This from the Mail On Sunday's report on the game was particularly pleasing: "How different they are this season under Patrick Vieira, fiery and lively and full of ways to hurt you." For the full report:
"Zaha was the star, as he often is, but when Wolves put two men on him, Palace went long to Mateta, short to Conor Gallagher, wide to Michael Olise or slipped it round the back where Tyrick Mitchell would be charging through on the overlap. And if none of that worked, they gave it to Jeff Schlupp, who put his head down and charged straight through the middle."

Agree - I think he's already the best centre-half I've seen at Palace and he's 21 years old playing his first season at this level. Destined for a massive career - I still can't work out how Chelsea decided to move him on, especially with Rudiger and Christensen both out of contract this summer.

And there's alway big Jim C. But Guehi is good.

It cant be long before he gets in. He's obviously well known and regarded in the England set up. I honestly think if he was 6'5 he'd be touted as the next Van Dijk. Can imagine him and Stones working well together. In which case, he'd have no chance of playing for England! Joking apart; the reason he's not in the England squad whereas the likes of Maguire continually are is the simple, age-old reason of big club bias.
Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes) |

Well it's not is it - Maguire has been playing in the Premier League since 2014.. this is Guehi's first season. I think the last squad announcement was in November 21, at which point Guehi's entire Premier League career was about 10 games... his time will come, but Maguire has rightly been ahead of him so far. Mings and Coady have been mainstays of the squad for a couple of years playing for smaller clubs in Guehi's position.

I have been an avid supporter since the 60s. ------------------------------------------------------------------- I was also there Willo. One of my first Palace games. A proper mud heap of a pitch and on "The Big Match" the next day. I am not sure we could reproduce our first half against Wolves on a pitch like that!
