Mateta seems to have a big heart and a big personality and so it's hard not to like him. He doesn't fit with football's paradigm of what makes a good footballer in many senses, but perhaps that is why he is proving effective; the Mateta Paradox, if you will. I love debating and discussing players, but I couldn't care less if I'm proved right or wrong provided we win and play well. I also think Mateta doing what he's done could be good for the whole squad as it shows you can earn a place in the team if you work hard, for whatever opinions are on JPM's talents are no one can question the work he is putting in. Good points. It's great to see players playing with enthusiam and positivity. Mateta and CG are right up there, and it seems to rubbed off on Wilf, who hasn't had a moan for a couple of games!

I've said this before, but Benteke is a great forward "defender" to bring on if we are leading and there are only 15-20 mins to go. Bullies and draws defenders, wins all hoofed balls in the air and buys fee kicks in the attacking half that all but snuffs out the other side's momentum and hope and wastes valuable seconds. Not one to bring on if we are chasing a game as he can't seem to score a goal.

The huge difference between him and Mateta is that the latter is actually physical (and present) in the six yard box when it counts. It's been said multiple times, but would Benteke have ended up scrapping on the goal line when he had originally won the ball in the air 50 yards away?

Mateta seems to play the ref a bit. Pointing to his wrist when their goalie is taking his time. That must wind up the oppo which can lead to mistakes. Fair play to the lad and he's grabbing his chance to prove the doubters wrong.

I've watched Mateta's goal from saturday loads of times and still can't fathom how the ball ended up over popping up over the Goalie AND stay on the Pitch.

Told you Mateta was by far best, and you wait for Eze next season he will be sensational in the Gallagher role, mark my words

If I was Gallagher I would engineer a stay @ Palace.. why go back to Chelsea... lots of uncertainty and he’s certainly loved here playing his best football....

Its amusing to see how many ways you can think of to have dig at Benteke. Even putting Ayew above him, who has scored once in the last 2 seasons. Ayew is a grafter without a doubt.
