In Australia the BBC News is all about the Norwich v Palace match and how Zaha played. The match thread here is all about the same match that finished 1-1. What is happening? I turned to the web to read Crystal Palace News, Transfer news and that shows the final score as 1-1 and all the paper reports are on the previous match

I thought we outplayed Norwich in the middle, but we needed to get more balls and players into the box. While I love Wardy it is clear that opposing teams see him as the weak spot, overload the right side and put him under pressure. Sometimes he uses his guile and copes, other times he is left for for dead and we are completely exposed, plus going forward, he doesn't have the quality either.

Mitchell was outstanding as was Guehi, pure class. Olise and Mateta were better than Ayew and Eze, I don't think Ayew has the capacity to make a difference as a sub and Eze is peripheral as a sub as well it seems.

Its "work in progress"

We had 72% of the play tonight and I think 7 more strikes at goal than Norwich, we should have put this to bed, but how many time have we said this. I’m like a f***ing stuck record.

This might seem controversial, but I want to see Chek play at right back at Brentford, he covered there for West Ham and he can do it for us. Poor Wardy has no positional awareness at all, how many times was he outpaced tonight. Every side we play against know it’s our really weak spot.

On the other side, Mitchell had another great game with his timely interceptions. If we can get him more forward he will be a great asset, mind you he did win the pen!!

Agreed. People are very premature and reactionary about these things.

Perhaps we should be affectionately know as 'Crystal Panic'?

I believe myself to be truly committed to this cause, every corner we concede worries me senseless.

Would say though, that is surely all the fun of the fair and unnecessarily panicking over everything is surely the hallmark of a true football fan.

Will take the point especially with an improved 2nd half, great goal from Wilf, good to see him back. Mitchell was brilliant again, Gallagher too anonymous for large parts but you can't complain, Joel Ward a fantastic servant to this club but has looked a liability for some time now.

Onward and upwards!

COYP!

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Another game we should have won, is the story of our season.

Bit of good, bit of bad, 1 good half, 1 very average half, that's Palace this year.

A point keeps us out of trouble for a bit longer....but overall, lament.

Ratings from me:

Guiata: 7.
Didn't have much to do...might feel like he should've got a hand to the goal but a pretty standard performance.

Ward: 3.
Love him. Club legend. But was exposed badly today. Need an upgrade, stat.

Andersen: 7.
A few trademark nice balls driven to the wings. Not much else to do. Could done better and picked up Puuki for the goal.

Guehi: 9.
Looks absolute mustard. Calm, composed and knows when to step out of defence really well.

Mitchell: 9. MOM.
An awesome performance. Still looks wobbly going forward, but hopefully that will come. Decision making beyond his years today.

Schlupp: 6.
Hard to rate. Didn't affect the game much but equally didn't do much wrong.

Gallagher: 7.
Buzzed around keeping busy and was at the heart of most promising attacks. Underwhelming compared to his usual high standards, but that's hardly his fault.

Hughes: 7.
Kept things ticking along nicely too. Nothing flash...but every team needs one of these. Now a mainstay in the team.

Zaha: 5.
Gets a 5 and not a 3 purely because of his worldie goal. Other than that, abysmal. Gave the ball away. Passed backwards. Afraid to take his man on. Missed a pen trying to be too clever. Just smash it.

Olise: 6.
Not as effective as recent weeks. Always offered an outlet and gets fans off their seat...but little productivity today.

Mateta: 5.
Offered very little. Lumbered around...a couple of nice runs but don't think he's warranted a start against Brentford.

Your contributions appear to be able to raise a smile even in uncertain times!

You raise a good point really, that in the moment every aspect is heightened and its either doom and gloom or elevation. I just have a 'glass half full' nearby whenever it's starting to look a bit 'panic stations'.

Funny how Wilf is always central to the story too, whether it's temperament at the fore, or something bizarre happening like his penalty slip tonight. Never a dull moment. If I lived stateside, I'm pretty sure I'd have some post game pain pills to hand! Ha.

We’re on the right track. We play like an academy team really lack some edge and game management. I think Mcarthur is so key this side. We get a decent striker in and a new right back and we’ll be top half next season really is fine margins. Letting goals in after a minute at elite level away from home you’re asking for trouble. Then get back into game after a half time bollocking and miss the penalty when we’re all over them and their heads are gone. It’s all about decision making and moments but the general approach and philosophy is correct for me under Viera. Needs some tweaking and a few signings but keep the faith. 70 % possession away from home is not to be sniffed at albeit without too many chances created. I personally feel Edouard gets in the starting 11 every week for me but TBF he’s often not taken his chance but feel he needs 6/7 games on the spin. Benteke and Mateta are not prem level end of. Have moments of course but consistently their all round games are not good enough as the main striker for a prem team end of story. Anyway onwards and upwards a point keeps us just enough out of bother in my opinion a point or win at Brentford and I think we’re good to go with ragards relegation and can crack on see how many points we can get. I’m really worried though if we get dragged into a scrap defo not got the minerals or away form for a relegation scrap. Let the games begin lol..eagles!

We just got two new strikers in. We've been trying for years to get a competent striker, and we can't do it. We get Sorloth, Batshuyahi, Edouard, Mateta, Plange, and I'm probably forgetting a couple. And we still need a good striker.

You make a good point. We haven't had an absolute poacher/goal scorer since Murray.

Wow, lots of pant wetting going on here. Those who think we can easily rollover teams like Norwich away really need to watch more premier league footy. Yes we can be naive at times, yes we are young and still learning. But we are a good team playing attractive football and our collective star is rising. We bossed that game and Norwich had to park the bus to keep us at bay. A bit like the way Roy used to when we had no possession but could stifle a game with everyone behind the ball.
Wilf Zaha is one of our best players and has been for several years. He is also one of our senior players now and while perhaps not as explosive as he was when younger he is still a force to be reckoned with. He found a way to get through that defence with a couple of skips to make space for a thunderbolt finish. How many times has he saved our bacon ? Pure class.
Could have/should have won? Maybe. Its easy to say he shouldn't have taken a penalty after the event, but at least he had the bottle to step up. I didnt like the way the ref took so long to let him take it. He was left thinking about it for too long and his face looked less confident the longer he waited. s*** happens... he lost his footing slightly.
I'm not liking the Wardy bashing that goes here too. He may not be the best RB on the planet but hes the f***ing best RB at CPFC by a country mile and if you think Clyne can cover the ground that he does and put in a shift week in week out then you are beyond help. Another draw that we could/should have won thats football, thats life. We are not going down.

Some of these Zaha comments are pathetic. The commentator singled him out as our best player but decided to give MOM to the Norwich lad instead.

Seems fashionable to dig out Wilf at the moment.

It was his best performance for a while and he was influential in all our attacking play in the second half.

Agree with most of this except Olise. He was excellent.
