How about those getting pilloried by yourself. When this is investigated I'm sure that mistakes were made but there was not the time for real due diligence. If fraud happened it costs all of us but c19 has and is a very exceptional once in a 100 year event. To any family who had a loved one saved I'm sure they don't really care how much it costs.

I expect the PPE corruption will eventually come out. It usually does in the end. First, Covid needs to disappear and then the security services will find their people. There'll be the odd case, the odd sex scandal (Williamson anyone?), and the classic car accident or unusual death in embarrassing circumstances.

I think you make a fair argument in that whoever was leading would've likely taken advantage of this (to varying degrees anyway). It is telling though (and not a mistake), that at the start of a pandemic where there was no real knowledge of how horrendous or otherwise this would be, that our politicians first thoughts were not for the general public but instead how much easy money they could make. If they do that at a time of peril, imagine what they're up to day in, day out.

You are correct phil, they had mooted a 2,1% payrise , but that was only mooted! I must have got distracted by Boris giving his chief of staff a 40%, yes, 40% pay rise! Who"s more important, Domonic cummings or an NHS nurse?, you decide! Thank you for confirming that you ‘mis-spoke’ croydon proud. I like to remain open minded and neutral in terms of the Politics of this Country, hence my noticeable lack of participation in this News/Politics message board sub-section. One thing I do take issue with though is when people invent facts or make things up purely to support their argument. It is not helpful and makes people a lot less likely to take notice of anything else that they say.

And I'm sure the hundreds of thousands who lost loved ones will care significantly how much time, resource and money was wasted through the deadly combination of complete incompetence and opportunistic greed.

Boris promised all student nurses £5,000 per year, tax-free, for each of their 3 years training in a triumphant press conference in Dec 2019. Many though aren't getting it because of "eligibility criteria" they quietly introduced, announced, in Feb 2020 when everyone had their eyes elsewhere. He is as big a con man as any politician I have ever witnessed.

70 odd billion wasn't enough then? And your lovely party would have saved everyone and we'd all be equally fecked ,emotionally, physically and financially about now.

If they do that at a time of peril, imagine what they're up to day in, day out. Politicians are more like national supervisors and are a part of a global system where money has always sat at the top.....most people still think that everything is national and self contained when in truth that rarely occurs. Money rules the system completely, you don't get to the top without kneeling at its altar as Corbyn found out. When a global crises happens like this they just revert to whatever the consensus is....they even all copy each other and say 'build back better' for example. There is safely in numbers....hide behind your experts, say 'yes' to the monied interests and the media won't turn against you as that would mean recognising their culpability as well.

The one and ONLY point I specifically outlined for clarification or supporting evidence on was the claim made by croydon proud that ‘Boris had promised them (doctors) a big pay rise.’ At no time did the PM do such a thing. If people are going to debate a topic then the participants should stick to the facts and not make false claims or fabricate things. Edited by Phil’s Barber (11 Oct 2021 1.41pm)
