I don't agree with your perspective.

If a white poster had done the reverse of what Madcap did I don't think it would be described as 'provocative'. Indeed, I think it would have been described as racist.

I think there are double standards operating here.

Also to criticise others for being annoyed and posting about it when Madcap was deliberately looking for a reaction shows, in my view, an unfairness to those posters.

Since you said this it has rung true, but both in terms and Tom and madcap. It's half-hearted to herald a persons colour only when they're in total agreement with you. Madcap may have been provocative, but the 'by numbers' barreling in by several was unfortunate, and the idea that he was a 'racist' and everyone else contributing was fairminded was not based in reality or reason.

If anyone involved had displayed perspective in that conversation, it wouldn't have taken the turn it did. There's something to be said for truly engaging, rather than being 'in with the in crowd' even if there is a cost to opting out of it. Comfort is just that, and consideration and character inevitably take a back seat as result.
