Where did I say that I travelled to the UK during the pandemic or in fact at anytime? The UK should have closed it's borders to US arrival as they had a terrible situation under Trump. The EU at least banned arrivals from the US. Then of course there was the arrivals from South Africa earlier this year where many countries had closed their borders to South Africa except the UK. Brazil is another example. I really don't understand why the UK is typically always last to act during the pandemic, never looking and learning from other countries that have applied such measures much earlier such as hotel quarantine on arrival. Track & trace was another debacle, £22 billion wasted. Even now, the 'traffic light' system being lauded as something new when it's been in place for many months in lots of other countries. I see far too much false exceptionalism that unfortunately many in the UK seem to fall for.

You complained a few weeks ago about delays at Border Control in the UK, criticising lack of staffing. I explained to you the facts, which you did not accept If you were not there are you saying your complaint was based on heresay?
The UK should have closed its borders totally, I am prepared to accept wrong decisions were made, whereas you are not prepared to accept that some elements were dealt with well. You are obviously a troll so no point in discussing with you, PP

How do you know we won't be going back?

If, as seems very likely, the UK now breaks up, and England's economy in comparison with those parts of the UK that leave it and then join the EU, starts to decline, we may well negotiate a way back in.

It would have to save face, and by then it would probably be into a reformed two speed EU, but it's very possible.

When you are in a hole you stop digging and start searching for a ladder.

Looking forwards to the UK accepting the Euro currency as that is now a requirement of joining!!!

So long as NATO exists then there is no need at all for an EU army. The UK is, and will always be, a sovereign state. The idea that we would ever have agreed to become part of a European super state was always just scare mongering. Greater co-operation on sourcing and joint training, sure. Unified command. Not a chance unless some kind of NATO disintegration took place. Possible under the last occupant of the WH but that threat has died, at least for the foreseeable future.

We have no choice other than to move on now that Brexit has happened. That doesn't though mean that there won't be many who are working for it to be reversed. Just as there were those who worked to take us out the moment we first joined. My hope is it doesn't take so long, although I am unlikely ever to know.

You keep on about rejoining. I don't think rejoining is a problem for any brexitters; but the issue would be the terms. Surely you understand that it wasn't being IN the eu which was the problem. It was the treatment given to the UK from the eu. You say we are top 5 but we wernt given any preferential treatment. You need to ask why that was if we were so influential. I don't know isn't an answer that will cut it wissie tbh.

Are you for real? Suggest you do some research on just how preferential our terms were in there. Would have been something advisable to do before you voted.

I thought the EU only has two rules: one for Germany and France, and one for everybody else.

Perhaps you should take your own advice!

Scotland will never be allowed to join the EU, as things stand. You really think England’s economy will decline compared to Scotland? Jeez

Until the question gets asked none of us know do we? They have found "creative" ways around the rules in the past and I think Scotland would certainly be welcomed, for a whole host of reasons.

Scotland's economy could well blossom as a member of the EU and not the UK. It would present an interesting opportunity to many investors. Much like Ireland but without a sea crossing to navigate to deliver to us. There's plenty of room and in the borders even the weather isn't too bad!

All of which presupposes the willingness of the EU to have us back. Just as likely is other EU members waiting to see how Brexit works out before deciding whether they should stay in themselves. They might not think the six weeks between us leaving and the pandemic is long enough to make that call.

Of course, but as all we are discussing is a presupposition that applies to every claim made. I am just giving my take on what might happen and not forecasting what will.

They'd back it to spite Britain. And it would be cheaper than Italy,Spain,Portugal and Greece to bail out every year or two.

I think a European only military alliance to replace NATO is a good idea. Europe disgracefully hides behind the US when it should be paying for its own defences but who is actually going to attack it?

Russia has the GDP of Spain. Since the end of the Cold War NATO has expanded right up to its borders, despite promising it would not do so.

Russia represents ZERO threat to Europe in terms of any kind of conventional military conflict.

I would have zero problem with the UK being part of this European alliance but lets not pretend that Russian tanks are somehow going to be pouring over the borders and making for Berlin.

Do you seriously think that would be a barrier?

We would likely re-enter on "associate" terms, with our currency opt out intact. Unless of course it got so bad that we were on our knees with the begging bowls out!
