I’d have no problem what so ever in seeing Kouyate, Marc.G or Tomkins at CB. Those 3 are all perfectly good enough at this level. Would I like more??? Yeah why not but I’d not be nervous about us being weak with those choices. It’s a shame Cahill doesn’t want to stay…perhaps he wasn’t going to get enough game time with us this season. I think we should have 4 CB and that has to exclude Kelly who isn’t anywhere near good enough…he’s a sub to a sub. Need one more but first team is covered in terms of quality.

I notice he hasn’t made the squad for Shalke tonight. He may still be behind on fitness having gone to the euros with Turkey as you get your holiday extended don’t you.

David Boateng, 20 years old. He's about 5'6 and 9 stone. Gets forward well but realistically he's not going to be troubling Ward or Clyne. We definitely need another CB who could be a starter. If Kabak is available for something around the £10m mark, it feels a complete no brainer if we can get him. I don't think the club will bring in a RB. If they do, it blocks any progression path in the future for Ferguson. We're one injury from Reece Hannam being our left back for the season at present - interesting to see if the club back him by not bringing another one in.

Media buzz suggests Seville are in for Kabak. If true (and assuming we were ever in for him?) we can't compete, especially as we can't even guarantee first team football let alone Europe. Just have to "settle" for Tomkins, Guehi, Kelly, hopefully Anderson and a CB from the youth if the annual injury cull truly savages our defence. Again.

I doubt Ferguson will ever be a regular in the team. He looks like being another Wickham/Sakho, always out long term injured. He hasn’t played any football in 18 months.
