I get why people want to put clarity/context onto how the deal was done and most credit goes to Dougie than PV which is fair.

However let's not be too dismissive on PV's influence either

We were looking for a long time at Olise yet we didn't pull the trigger... Why?

Also the club said they wouldn't renew existing players contracts until a new manager was in place.
So PV is giving the greenlight on our recent out of contract players but not new acquisitions?

I just wonder if Roy held off on the transfer hence it didn't happen in Jan but PV said yes, hence it happening.

The point is let's not be wholly dismissive on PV's input into this is all I'm saying... Can't go from one extreme to the other

I imagine that there are a fair few we've been monitoring for a long time - just about everyone has been linked with Olise and it's hardly as if we could rely on getting it over the line.

The Eze success will have tempted him of course but feels likely that PV may have been an inluence in making him sign on dotted line. Likewise doubt it'd a coincidence that the first signing we make is a player PV already knows.

Looks like a great signing!

Though it made me smile as you can read around the internet "here's PV first signing".

Steve Parish: "We have been monitoring him extremely closely for an extended period of time, and have been impressed by his consistent performances for Reading at such a young age."

Patrick Vieira: "We have the tools in our football club to make him a better player, and we’ve known him quite well because he’s a player the football club have been following for a long time."
"There were some big challenges, and to sign him, I think, is credit to Dougie [Freedman] and his staff."

So basically... it has nothing to do with PV...

Fantastic business. He will definitely fill the Eze void this season and having them both on the pitch will be unreal.

To put into context the ridiculous price we have picked him up for;

Olise
£8 million
7 goals
12 assists
19 years old

Buendia
£33 million
15 goals
16 assists
24 years old

I still think Buendia is decent business by Villa but we have easily got bargain of the window already.

I think it’s wishful thinking regarding this being a PV signing. The club have been watching him for over 12 months and we’re interested in him last Jan. Hes not a PV signing…he’s a DF signing. I’m certain PV had to give his blessing of course, but he hasn’t put this deal together like some are suggesting.

I suspect PV being our manager persuaded him. He is a French Youth international, PV was former captain of France

Great deal.

To again put the price into context, Matheus Pereira is being chatted about at £15m-£20m. We'd be miles down the list for him, but the Olise deal shows that were Zaha to come in, we can confidently bring in two players for the money, one a really established player, and walk away with change.

Looking forward to what's next!

26th January 2010 - Enter Administration
2nd May 2010 - D-Day 1 - Survival at Hillsborough
1st June 2010 - D-Day 2 - Survival at Lloyds
7th June 2010 - CPFC2010 exchange contracts.

Exactly. Why wouldn't you want to go to the club managed by one of the greatest French midfielders ever when you aspire to be a top class midfielder yourself?

Although DF has done well to get this deal over the line, PV's presence as our manager may well have removed any doubts the player may have had.

Welcome Michael. Look forward to seeing you playing for us next month.

I am just glad all over he is here - signed, sealed, and delivered on a 5-year contract.

A cousin of mine supports Reading. He says Olise is going to be a top player. He recons we have another Zaha but without the attitude.

Only got him for £8M because that was the release clause figure. My cousin recons Olise he is worth £20M already.

Good that Vieira appears to be targeting promising young players for signings. Got a long term vision in mind.

So.. Is he injured? Probably BS, but a rumour on the BBS says he’s got a stress fracture in his shoulder. Hope to see pictures of him in training soon!
