Without that money now we can always get relegated and knowing us the support will evaporate without many years in the Prem, and without the money, you can’t guarantee many years in the Prem. By many I mean decades, not 7. I agree with what you’re saying but it’s not possible unless loads of money is pumped in. This, a club now needs loads of money to 'stay' in the Prem, let alone move up the table. Its also just as much about infrastructure as it is the team on the pitch...and for that..guess what..you need loads of money. I'm totally sympathetic with doing things the right way, but even to do that you need to invest millions, tens/hundreds of millions in today's game. A super rich investor that would leave Parish at the helm and provide the financial backing (something the yanks were supposed to be doing) IS what we need.

The attitude toward this depends on how long you potentially have to live or still care. I'm quite keen on some rather rapid success. It's taken the club over 100 years to achieve a 5 year stay in the top league. How much longer do you want to wait for some glory? Glory hunters? Why would you not want to see a 50k stadium full of supporters? Football is different now. If you want to compete then you have to accept the landscape for what it is. Not glory hunters, just disinterested observers. I'm sure an overwhelming majority of the attendees (non Burnley supporting ones) came from within a 5 mile radius of Selhurst back in 79. I went to a game a while back and this tourist was looking at me bemused after I rejoiced at a goal. I'm not waiting for glory. Hoping for it, pining even. But not actually waiting for it. I never signed up for it.
If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities. |

I wholeheartedly concur with these sentiments. I have seen far too many games of ours in the lower divisions, in inclement weather as part of a sparse crowd.A world away from where we are at this present juncture and long may it continue. Ye Gods! I agree with Hrolf and Willo! 50,000 gate - 15,000 tourists = 35,000 "proper" fans. What's wrong with that?

All I want is a new main stand. I’ll then buy a ST in the top tier, look at London to the left and Kent / Croydon to the right! I can also marvel at the Arthur where I’ve watched most games in 35 years of following Palace! I can then get a nice drink at HT, use a toilet that doesn’t resemble Glastonbury in a hurricane and even try the catering – haven’t ate at the ground in years … f*ck that!!! If the game happens to be entertaining I’ll probably watch that too. I couldn’t give a f*ck about winning anything truth be told. It’s the journey not the destination. It’s the day out. The fact it’s my local club. The social. The rivalries. Winning trophies is a bonus but you can’t have everything in life …

Ah, your posts are always glass half full eh! In truth, were we to move to the National Sports Centre I think we could be sexy. The Crystal Palace area is getting pretty cool and the site has all sorts of great connotations. It's an area where you really could imagine a whole village growing up, with hotels and conference centres etc., like around the Chelsea ground. Sadly, Selhurst doesn't stand much chance of ever being that. Much as I love it. I agree with you a brand new stadium up on the hill at Crystal Palace could have made all the difference in that respect.

Fair enough. I'd also love to see us push on and maybe even challenge for a few trophies.
