Absolutely correct. If I buy a Ferrari and write it off on the first bend I come to, does that mean I don't have to pay the installments? Of course not. It's a tragedy, but Cardiff I have not heard that Cardiff are reneging on the deal merely showing some respect.

Mrs YT said something similar to me yesterday. I explained to her that "a deal is a deal" therefore Nantes are absolutely entitled to the money, in the same way that Cardiff were absolutely entitled to take out life assurance on the player from the point of purchase. Why should Nantes be punished financially because their then ex-player chose such a dubious way to travel to his new job? (I asked Mrs YT, rhetorically). I sympathise that the timing wasn't great, but as other posters have commented, why has this financial matter between two businesses been made into a news story in any case? It's got nothing to do with anybody other than the two parties involved. My understanding is that the flights were arranged by the agent either acting for Sala himself, or for Cardiff FC. Either way Nantes apparently played no part in transporting him.

Talks***e reported this morning on Jim White that Cardiff won't entertain paying the first installment of 6million until the body is recovered, contrary to the payment terms.

I would hope that Cardiff told Nantes of course we will pay but can you give us a break for a few months we need to claim on the insurance policy, which I assume they have.

It has been said & i wish i had the link, that it was Sala himself who organised the flight, as the pilot wasnt allowed to carry fare paying pax. Now, make of yhat as you will.

I don’t think that would hold water legally (if you’ll pardon the bad metaphor in the circumstances.) Cardiff presumably had the funds to pay Nantes while the poor guy was still alive, so his death shouldn’t make any difference. Crazy comparison, but if Cardiff had sold him on the day after they bought him, they could hardly say to Nantes “you’ll have to wait until (club #3) have paid us before we can pay you.” Cardiff haven’t ‘lost’ £15m overnight; they’ve ‘lost’ £15m worth of future contributions to the team, which is what the insurance is all about. A final point to make is that Cardiff weren’t obliged to have insurance in place at all. The fact that they (presumably) chose to doesn’t diminish or enhance Nantes’ right to be paid, Edited by YT (07 Feb 2019 4.43pm)

Until such time as they do recover it, and so far they have said there was only one body that could be seen in the wrecked fuselage which couldn't be identified without recovery of the aircraft, Sala can only still be classified as 'missing, presumed dead'. Without a body, they would have to get a court to declare him so.

can anyone claim on the life assurance until a death cert is issued? If a body isnt found it can be 7 years until it pays out.

Cardiff are legally obliged to honour the payment terms they signed with Nantes.
