In reality the deal is significantly cheaper than the £2.5m quoted. It is a deal that makes sense when you consider the lack of options up top and his availability.

The stars are coming into line for an inevitable relegation. What an omen this is after flogging our only decent RB. Michy isn't coming back, Bentekkers is playing w*** and Wickham will be out for the season before the end of preseason. Ayew up top it is then. Bleak.

If he does sign and Wilf stays, that will be them two with Benteke, Wickham and Sorloth, if none of those are loaned or sold cant see us getting anymore than 5 forwards.

Very happy with this signing. Capable of playing in a number of positions and happy to bide his time. Obviously not first choice but a suitable back up. Got better towards the back end of the season and played some good games. A really willing runner, I was impressed with his attitude towards closing things down and playing that unglamorous role despite not getting many minutes. At a couple of million it’s a snip for so many positions being covered.

Fine with this depending on the wages. If we're paying 50k a week again, I'll be disappointed (but not surprised)

He's a willing worker which Hodgson seems to like, but how many games did he actually have much of an influence on last season? £2.5 million is cheap by today's standards, but I really hope he is being signed as backup and is not considered a starter. I reckon Wickham will go out on loan if this deal happens with the club eyeing a first-team striker, probably on loan given Bentenke's contract is due to expire next summer. As much as it pains me, it's looking like the club are aiming for another season of consolidation rather than progression.

Palace have wanted him for years so this is no surprise at all and for few million only SP I bet was loving it. I don't understand this really the guy is not even being used correctly he is more of a player that links midfield with striker yet he was always being used up top by himself which he really struggled plus he's not really a goal scorer which is what we need. To make up the numbers I suppose he is another backup player be interesting to see what his wages are. If this is the second signing it's really not looking good is it only few weeks left and we have signed two people which are not improving the squad just number fillers.
