1066 History documentary on the beeb last night. The actor playing the ambassador between Norman-French William the Conqueror and English King Harold was.... drum roll, yes, you have guessed it. Black, with a plummy English accent.
a linguistically 'mixed-race' person in 1066 is likely to be half English/half Norman French. So why did the BBC insert an Afro-Caribbean actor ? I am happy to see this actor in a history documentary about 'the Windrush/Tony Blair's britain/even The Falklands War' but 1066 ? George Orwell's 1984 is alive and well. But if you watch the BBC history you would think William Wallace fought Longshanks in 2019 Thornton Heath with the 198 bus trundling in the background. will the BBC do the history of the battle of Rorkes Drift and be putting a Wayne Hennessey lookalike in goal for the Zulu's ? i do not recall the Bayeux tapestry depicting all the diversity of the twentyfirst Century. The sooner the BBC ends the better. I'd pay for parts of the radio service but that's it. I resent being taxed for it to promote its internationalist 'Guardian reading' neo liberalism and then have the cheek to lie about being impartial.

Will be at the 'Static' demo outside their London HQ at the w/e, causing(peaceful) mayhem

This racism row is a good way of drumming up PR for the relaunch? There was one reason why the Wombles were successful and that was Bernard Cribbins. It was Cribbins' voice over that made a hit out of a fairly boring story line "Wombles pick up litter". It doesn't matter if the new Wombles are all white or rainbow unless they have someone of the calibre of Cribbins it will be a flop.
