Nonsense, the behavior of the police and how BHA approach the situation can add to the situation. Under those circumstances things might boil over slightly. Which it sounds like it did which then was exacerbated by the stewards/police and the decisions they took.

If someone punches you in the back, do you keep walking along whistling.

If you are thrown into an area, on your own, with opposition fans, do you just smile contently.

If you are pushed or manhandled do you say pleasantly, have a good day.

Read my post again. I said how sorry I was for innocent fans being mistreated - I am not excusing that!!

My point was that if it was true that lots of Palace fans turned up without tickets and tried to get in then they have a lot to answer for in creating an unpleasant environment.

Yes because they covered themselves in glory last night...

Having worked for two Forces, I do. You may not be aware of this but there was a case of some lying related to Liverpool supporters in the past.

See this link

[Link]

Chief Inspector Simon Nelson said it was the worst example of disorder and violent behaviour he had experienced in 12 years as match commander and said away supporters "attempted to enter the ground with pyrotechnics, knives and knuckledusters, which were found following efforts to gain access through fire exit doors in the south stand".

Whereas what we know from posters on this site is that the BHA 'fans' potentially were worse culprits as they were goading the Palace crowd.

I read this as the items were found, not necessarily discovered on people during searches. I could be wrong.

Like I said, it is in the interests of certain groups to point fingers at the away supporters. Especially as it is clear the Police and BHA made a right royal mess of controlling the situation and appear to have irritated all parties not just the guilty.

Focus should be on the hoodlums, hell-bent on causing trouble with the resultant effect that innocent and genuine supporters who purchased tickets were denied from watching the game.Disgraceful behaviour.

Where is the evidence of such Police brutality and 'Heavy handed' tactics ?

Let's NOT deflect attention away from the errant hoodlums who decended on the town and the football ground.

By someone on here who has already wrote what happened to them. Check the other thread on the matter and read her account as she was there.

Why shouldn't the focus also be on Brighton's inability to manage a crowd along with the police. Brighton decided to reduce the number of tickets, which backfired spectacularly but even then if it had been managed properly no ticketless fans would have been anywhere near the ground.

I'm still not sure how many ticketless fans there were. A dozen, 50, 250?

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

Not read any of this.

But not seen any reports of major Police brutality against innocent fans etc etc etc.At the end of the day any robust action by Police must be viewed in tne context of the situation at the time.

I repeat - it was the actions of the hoodlums which were the catalyst for events which followed.Wanton, mindless anti-social behaviour and violence.

A few cups of tea and a soak in a hot bath and I am back..

I travelled to Brighton. I was wearing my colours (only person I saw all day / evening in them) we were marched the long way to Brighton station to board the train to Falmer. This was to be expected and to be honest all the chanting, shouting and attention we attracted through town was part of the tie and the away day experience. It was a buzz to be part of that..

Took forever to be put on the train , police filmed us constantly. Again expected. Didn't get off at falmer until kick off. That's when the problems began. Through Brighton we were kept kettled and therefore protected by and large. At the perimeter of the amex it was a free for all. We had to pass several of their entrances to get round to ours (this is one thing which they could do with changing in future) now bear in mind I was wearing colours you had Brighton to the left, us to the right and a line of police packed shoulder to shoulder down the middle like a wall. An officer pushed me with full force on my shoulders over to the Brighton side. They were fighting to get at our lads, all sorts were being thrown from both sides. I was asking then shouting to be let through away fRom them to my own supporters and the police refused and kept pushing me back. I wasn't drunk, I wasn't laity or swearing and they put me into a situation of being hurt. Eventually an officer grabbed me and shoved me back to my fans in front of horses which were being driven through the crowds to disperse them.

Bha fans were running out of their entrances to try and get to our fans. I walked round the bend to our entrance and was met with smoke bombs everywhere and absolute total chaos. So we literally arrived in the middle of it all. I will post a photo of the scene which greeted us at the end.

We were then kettled , they rode their horses into us, they sent dogs into us. We had to use the back of coaches to toilet in the 60 odd minutes we were kept there. They started to make the cordon smaller and smaller and with that began the crush and surges of fans. You had no control over which direction you were pushed in it was like being on a wave being tossed about. Scary. At one point I stopped and tired to stand still so not to be knocked to the ground and a police officer punched me in the back between the shoulder blades and shouted to keep moving.. their attitude stank. They treated us like animals and vermin.

Taken back to falmer and made to stand there for ages as there was no train for us. At Brighton they refused to let people leave the station and we were shouted and sworn at by police to get on the bedford train at the next platform. I approached an officer to ask if it called at London.bridge and I was spoken to like filth and shouted at to get on the train. They were vile.
