The premier is one of the most challenging leagues in the world on players bodies. Sky and BT commentators have even created a new word they regularly use ......... ‘physicality’.
Sadly, CW’s body is not up to this league. The physical demands the premier puts on players bodies is blatantly way beyond CW.
The sooner the club and all of us and of course CW, accept this, the sooner he can drop down a league or two physically and start enjoying life again.
In his shoes, I would consider abroad, but his problem now will be finding any club to take him.
Maybe the solution would be loan to say a division one team with us subsidising his wages. There’s is no way we will renew his contract so we need to help him step down once he finds his fitness again rather than pushing him back into the premier cauldron that frankly his body cannot take.

Firstly, how many games has he played for palacd in the premiers league. I don't think it's the physicality of the league, he gets injured in training, playing for the u23s....I have no idea what his problem is, but unlikely he'll play for us again.
Secondly, pointless sending him out to another team on loan, if he was ever to get fit enough, he'd soon get injured again and be sent back.

A - we wouldn't pay his wages, or only a small %
B - he may come good and then come back and perform here/command a sale fee
C - its no skin of our nose due to point A

Trump lost. Badly. Hahahahahahaha.

A. If and it's a big if, he managed to get fit enough to play, no one in their right minds would pay his wages.

B. He wouldn't stay fit long enough.

C. See points a and b

If Connor Wickham was a car he would have been an insurance write off months ago.

If I was off work sick as long as he has been I would have been investigated by now!

I do not doubt Connor has ability and he certainly gives everything when he does play.

However, as a club and a business we have to pay him up now and move him on before the January window. He is taking up a space in our squad that we could do with replacing as goals is our biggest issue.

Do we want to try and stay in this league or continuously pay this man for very little in return?

Horrible to have to say this but your time is up Connor and I wish you all the best for the future.

I assume the club goes on the advice of medical experts. If we are being told he is over his main injuries and that these latest setbacks are unrelated it would be silly to release him for nothing.

It maybe that the club has been told that he "might" recover and based on that the club had decided that as we have to pay his wages anyway it is better to continue to hope especially if the insurance company will not sign off.

From my time in management insurance companies are very reluctant to retire someone due to sickness, they will cling to "maybe" in a medical report. Doctors of course are reluctant to outright state this person will never work again unless the evidence is 100%.

So the club may have tried to pension Wickham off but the Insurance company might have said no and the club thought we're stuck with his wages so keep going until either he is written off, contract runs out or he recovers.

Lots of ifs and maybe's but none of us really know.

If you were off sick in a succession of work related injuries it is your employer that would be investigated and not you

Just cannot see this turning around, at Palace anyway. Hes been out too long and just cannot get in condition. I really like him as a player but hes a burden on the wage bill with zero roi. I am almost certain the club would have investigated possibilities of termination of contract.

According to Roy,Wickham is available for selection tomorrow, which is fantastic news provided he does not injure himself doing pre match warm up exercises once again.
Fingers crossed he comes off the bench and scores the winner.
