Wages = £68m and growing but yeah I agree, I think on average you're looking at £40 mil a year transfers. It was about £10 mil net last summer. Whatever way we look at it its a choice of no Sakho and room to sign players and decide whether we want to sell. Or the opposite, obviously. Well obviously to most of us.

The major limiting factor currently would seem to be Sakho himself, who seems to have set his sights a bit higher than just PL football.

If a bid anything like last summer Benteke bid, we could be in for a long summer. Remember when we supposedly entered a champions league clause on the Benteke deal. Must of been pardew convincing the board we'd be playing Barca. Ha ha Edited by Dan89 (05 Jul 2017 11.44am)

I keep saying there is no point in replacing somebody who added nothing to last seasons first team. The idea is we get rid of Mutch etc and then upgrade on players like Jimmy Mc who are then the squad players. Obviously a lot harder in reality but that should ultimately be the aim

One thing about Sakho that may be a concern is how de Boer gets on with him. FdB seems a pretty serious character and I think at Inter he was a bit of a disciplinarian. Allardyce wasn't really like that with us, he seemed a lot more relaxed and gave a lot of responsibility to the players themselves. If de Boer wants to control everything then he might get wound up by a big character like Sakho just as Klopp seems to have. Obviously they could get on like a house on fire but it's just a thought that they might not.

Most successful coaches have good man management skills, and I would hope that as de Boer has himself been a distinguished international CB they should have a lot in common, hopefully. The following fearure argues the case for /against Sakho. I think it may become an issue of how many other changes de Boer wants to make with the squad, whether the budget is 'elastic' at all, and how important a top notch ball playing CB is to his overall approach. If his overall budget is 'just' £40m then I cant see that he could afford to blow most of it on one, admittedly very good, player. But I'm just a punter!

If FdB wants to play from the back, Sakho would suit that systemly. He was the only CB that could play good passes whilst confident on the ball (Albeit a couple of mistakes each game). Goalkeeper We'd be set with the above, whilst getting rid of a few.
