He'll get a fair amount of time. More than a few games. It's just hard to say without knowing the performances and points. If you're persisting with 3-4-3 and after 6 games it's 1 point and after 10 games it's 4 points then it's not looking promising. But then again it might not be 3-4-3 and so bad as above. Too early to say but a few games is too soon. After 10 you're getting a very good idea. After 6 alarm bells should be ringing to manager himself.

I might be very wrong but I sense that if 3-4-3 is not working after say 3 or 4 games, supporters will hurl brickbats in the direction of FDB for changing formation. If it works instantly, he will be a genius !

I think it can work but we need 2 players for it to be affective, forget about goalkeeper. We need a rwb and Rcb.

In my humble estimation, if we had appointed Dyche as manager we would be seeing a completely different approach from what we are seeing from FDB.Might have been a 4-4-2 formation like deployed at Burnley etc etc and maybe our supporters would have been more comfortable with this formation and approach to the game.

I sense that with the change to 3-4-3 and the personnel changes this involves, supporters are a tad nervous as to how this will all pan out. One can sense an unease and if we get off to an indifferent start, FDB will be pilloried with cries of "Walking before running" "Not knowing the PL" etc etc.Could be a short 'Honeymoon period' for FDB.

My perception of Dyche is that he is an apprentice Allardyce - and I don't mean that disrespectfully. A good man manager and very pragmatic in terms of tactics and resources.

If he had come to us then I don't think there would have been too many complaints, and he fits with " the Palace way " that Parish referred to last season when SA was brought in.

FDB on the other hand suggests revolution rather than evolution. It appears that the set up of the team has been decided as opposed to the manager looking at the players and then deciding which formation is most likely to be effective and get the most out of what we have.

That's a worry I have but not a criticism. I think Steve Parish has made a brave appointment and he is clearly trying to break the mold and see where it takes us. Hopefully it will be upwards !

A very good post.

What I will say is that I believe that FDB is wedded to 4-3-3 so one assumes that a 3-4-3 has been born out of his assessment of the squad.

But I totally understand what you are saying about Dyche and the fact that Parish has steered away from the "Palace way" in terms of FDB's appointment.

I didn't want Dyche because I thought it would be more bottom third dwelling and finishes, albeit I didn't think he would relegate us. The problem with what de Boer appears to want to do is that we don't seem to have the funds to put together the team to achieve it. We're trying to carry out a FdB revolution in playing style on a Dyche-level investment. Let's just hope that it works out.

Can you hear the Brighton sing? I can't hear a ******* thing!

Using words like "The problem" backs up what I have been saying regarding a sense of unease about what FDB is doing at the present time.Maybe I'm totally wrong.

Thing is that if FDB transforms our fortunes this season, 'Bigger' clubs will surely look to lure him away.

I don't think you can say that until the transfer window is closed.

Hopefully there is a lot of work going on behind the scenes to get players in.

We got till thee end of August so need to pannick yet.

Teams are finding it hard to sign players.

Spurs haven't signed anyone yet.maybe us and other teams are waiting till the window nears it's close before getting deals done.

Liverpool might soffen their stance on Sakho and lower the price but being realistic I don't think he'll come.

The transfer window might not close until the end of August but the season starts on the 12th. One permanent signing for a team that lost 4 of their last 5 games at the end of last season is simply not good enough. Why does this seem to happen every year?
