Saying that, I completely agree, homosexuals have a consenting partner, a paedophile does not, as a pre-pubescent child can not consent. On the subject of gay chanting, I don't take part in it, but I do recognise that for 95% of those singing it, it's getting a rise out of the opposition and that most of the people taking part are not actually homophobes. Not sure what this fixation with peadofiles and pre-pubescent people is... In this country, a peadophile is someone who has sexual relations with another person under 16 - pre-pubescent or not - So I think is better defined as Someone who has Sexual relations with a partner who cannot give consent due to their Age Homosexuals are simply people who are attacted to people of the same sex. The same 'rules' apply to them as Straight(is that a PC term!?) people.

Paedophilia is definitely defined legally and medically as relating to pre-pubescent children. But yes, it is illegal to have sexual contact with someone under the age of 16. But technically this doesn't necessarily make the adult a paedophile, as it is defined. It still makes them a wrong-un, obviously. And in the eyes of the law it makes no difference, as I understand.

It's not exactly a "fixation" I was questioning the definition of a pederast, because I am interested to understand the difference. If you see that as a "fixation" well that's up to you. And for the record I think sexual contact by adults on children is abhorrent, whether they are pre-pubescent or not.

I bet you anything you could have a rainbow flag with an eagle on it saying 'Glad to be Gay' in the Palace end and receive zero, or practically zero, abuse from Palace fans. They would laugh more than anything I am sure. As we were discussing on another thread...some people reserve the 'right' to take offence at anything they wish regardless of the nature of it...what would happen if people starting feigning 'offence' at people being 'offended' god help us all...

So it's ok to use homophobic abuse just to wind people up? Just because homophobic chanting may not be directed at 'real gay' people as you say, or that people don't resort to physical abuse, doesn't make it any less homophobic. Chanting such as that often seen in games against Brighton only serves to further reinforce the stigma of being gay in the football community, and as the statement says, offend not just Brighton fans, but Palace fans as well. It's about time that as a club and a fanbase we grew up and stopped using such purile and immature insults. If someone chanted homophobic abuse at me I'd just ignore them, just as I would if they chanted racial or ginger'ist abuse at me...you know why? because in the real world it's just words and I can rise above it. Has anyone ever thought that bullies thrive on the reaction?

Seriously why do we or any other club need a proud and palace group anyway. Can't people get on with being gay, felching , rug munching etc without having a committee meeting and going on and on about it. Get a ticket , go to football , watch the game and f*** off home for Christ sake
Oh that's right...bring him in to it!

One thing that I love about football which differs from every day society is there is abuse, politically incorrect chanting, insults flying around on both sides. Its a case of if you don't like it don't go to football in my opinion. People that say that is an outdated view is a pc lefty that is part of whats wrong with our culture. We cant offend anyone ever! What rubbish.
