That is rather my point. The current liberal left is illiberal.

Your use of the singular 'is' shows how you view the left as all having the same ideas.

Arguing about definitions. I love it.

Definitions are important. When you quote an example of someone doing something horrendous and shouting liberal at them it doesn't make them liberals. Someone quoted Blair as part of some liberal elite. I can think of few people less liberal than Blair. Who next Corbyn?

Perhaps we all have a different idea of what liberal means these days.

Perhaps...but it needs to be a little more granular and sophisticated than whatever someone happens to disagree with.

'Liberal left' doesn't just mean the Liberal Democrats as you stated earlier. It does include them of course, and Blair for that matter, and some Tories like Ken Clarke, and even Cameron with his gay marriage stance. It means the supporters of the the nonsensical and damaging policies perpetrated in recent years in the name of 'progressive politics'. The use of the word 'progressive' should be viewed in the same light as most people view the term 'Peoples Republic'.

We have now sunk to a depth at which the restatement of the obvious is the first duty of intelligent men. [Orwell]

Use the word progressive if you like but there is nothing liberal about these people even if there might be policies we could agree on. Clarke is a dyed in the wool Tory who has found his party move away from him. Decent bloke but he aint a liberal. As for Blair...by definition war criminals cant be liberals

I don't think it about disagreement. Having an opposing view doesn't make you a liberal does it. It is the hypocrisy and inconsistency of so called liberal values coupled with their focus on minority interests that probably best sum it up.

Of course the devil is in the specifics however I think a majority group should deal with minorities with a certain humility, generosity and understanding, yes. Bend over backwards if you like because ultimately the majority, by definition, can always impose their will.

No hypocrisy there.

Sounds simple when you put it like that.

Sadly it isn't.

Its an imperfect world. We all f*** up but it is the willingness to keep trying that is important.

I meant that to sound a little less pretentious that it possibly does. Give me the benefit of the doubt!

I haven't read all 11 pages but wonder when this ceased to be about Tomlinson and Whiteley. I would guess about page 2 before the usual suspects filled up the server's hard drives trying to establish their intellectual superiority over one another
