6 months too late but better late than never. Last half of last season was terrible, the points and position did not reflect fairly on the team. The opening WBA game was an utter disgrace and reflected totally on Pardew's deficiencies as a manager as did the rest of this season. A five year contract was a mistake by Parish but now he's redeemed himself. 5 million quid? Yeh Ok, "thankyou Alan" I guess.... But to be realistic, I don't think it was ever likely that they'd sack Pardew after we had just been to a cup final. It may seem "6 months too late" but he was being kept on because of that cup run, and probably because he got us to 10th from a relegation position the previous year.

He hasn't learnt his lesson since Sunderland away and Liverpool at home last season. Same sh1t over and over. It's made him richer but unemployable at the highest level, oh I nearly forgot, put our prem status in serious jeopardy.

A bit of respect is due regardless. However, I must have seen most of the games he played for us back in the day...and his feats on the pitch weren't all that. So he scored v the Scouse. Fair play. Other than that he was among our worst midfielders of the past 40 years. But I believe he tried and he was 8 minutes away from giving me arguably the happiest day of my life. So thanks for that. Totally agree with this, I wanted Perdu to succeed and wont beleive that SP will get involved with fat sam. If he does I will sing Fat sams red and blue army as his surname is far too long.

Ah, yes, that would be the same jeopardy our Prem status was in when he arrived. How did that work out?

Did brilliantly to keep us up in 14/15 but slowly transformed us from a hard working, over achieving, well drilled team to an underachieving one with a big wage bill. As soon as the influx of 90s players with questionable credentials started I thought it would not end well. He talks the talk on TV but plenty to suggest he's a bit lazy and lacks attention to detail. Edited by Rachid Rachid Rachid (22 Dec 2016 7.16pm)

We're 2 years maturer in this league yet playing with more naivety in juvenile prep, defending and protection of those things other prem managers value. Erm, what are they called? Points.

Seems the timing is a bit strange which may point to availability of a successor coming in sooner rather than later. It might of been a bit soon for a few of us but the writing has been on the wall for some time and AP has been given a fair amount of time to turn things around compared with many manager sackings.

Two things - £5 million as a pay-off is obscene, it would take most of us 4 plus lifetimes to earn anything like that and is simply reward for failure. Second, if it is to be SA, I hope we do due diligence, deep and wide into his bona fides and satisfy ourselves that there is nothing else dodgy.

I expect there to be a fair few questions asked and after hearing on the radio after BFS's England sacking the varying nature of what people are and aren't allowed to do outside of contract, I expect Parish to draw up a very strict list of allowed ventures that'll be pretty much: - Property investments BFS can't risk messing this up anyway. If he does he'll struggle to get anything ever again. I expect him to be a good boy this time.

Yes expect an appointment sooner rather than later. Don't think taking over before the Man Utd game would have been a smart move.
