The stats can only tell you some of the story , it's about where the tackles/ interceptions / passes are and what impact they have on the game.
Cabaye actually did make a couple of important interceptions against Man U and Chelsea , then you see him falling over behind Pogba leading to Man U goal , then against Hazard he has a little dig and again is brushed off easily , then escorts him across the pitch without getting near him or hassling once to allow him to think and pass easily to the gut who sets up Chelsea's goal.
Is it a coincidence that Pogba allegedly had his best game for Man U and Hazard had his best game for ages (Pundits) against us with him playing in midfield.
As I asked with his win record in the last year , we win more without him than with , what positive impact is he having ?
I don't think he is a bad player just a very average one , especially compared to his former self.
I see other players judged harshly who are giving their all , and he is supposed to be the 'star' who all the other players have to aspire to according to our manager, so therefore is judged accordingly.

That's a ridiculous stat though. We've only had six league wins in 2016, and he started three of them.

Gareth Bale went two years and 24 games before his first win in a Tottenham shirt, did that mean he was crap?

Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time.

As this thread seems to have shifted to a discussion of Jedi vs Cabaye, here are the stats for Jedi's last two seasons in the PL with Palace:

Over the 2014-15 season our record with Jedi in the team:
W6, D7, L11 (or 1.04 ppg)

Jedi out of the team:
W7, D2, L5 (or 1.64 ppg)

Over the 2015-16 season with Jedi in the team:
W4, D9, L14 (or 0.78 ppg)

Jedi out of the team:
W7, D0, L4 (or 1.91 ppg)

Jedi was immense for us in 2013-14, but the record was mixed after that.

Back on topic, if Zaha goes to Liverpool [dread thought] and we use the money wisely to invest in a good left midfielder, Townsend will start regularly in his favoured right wing; then his class will show.

[Clearly there is a down side to this scenario]

MKCPFC can confirm, but I think he was taken off and the team then improved.
Sunderland away was one game.

Good point though on Bale.

OK our last 7 league wins
Dec 19 Stoke away Cabaye did not play'
Apr 9 Norwich home Cabaye played 90 mins
May 7 beat Stoke 2-1. Cabaye off HT we were 1-0 down.
Sep 10 Boro away won 2-1 No Cabaye
Sep 18 Stoke Home won 4-1 No Cabaye
Sep 24 Sunderland away won 3-2. Cabaye off when we 2-1 down.
Dec 3 Saints home won 3-0 No Cabaye.

Gareth Bale was a young kid just transferred to a big club, changed position as he developed to find fame, good management.

Cabaye we bought in his prime 27 ? and is experienced French International with Premier experience and pedigree.

I have not said he is crap , he is very average for us.
I am trying to find out what he brings to CPFC in the way of bought for big money (then) and a hefty wage and a star player status.

This kind of highlights my point though? It's a stat drawn from a small sample size over a huge period of time, with no real correlation. You're even bringing in results from December 2015, conveniently stopping at the Stoke game where he didn't play, despite the fourth month gap between that and the next result in your list.

What about the four wins from six just before that?

Southampton (h) 1-0 - played 90 minutes and scored the winner

Everton 1-1 - went off when we were 1-0 with ten minutes to go and then we conceded.

Newcastle (h) 5-1 - went off when we were 4-1 up.

Sunderland (h) 0-1 - played 90 minutes

Liverpool 2-1 - went off with eight minutes to go when we were 2-1 up.

What conclusions can we draw from those?

He wasn't on the pitch against West Ham or West Brom this season when were awful, so who is to blame for that?

Sunderland away, is it Cabaye's fault Ledley provided that lovely assist for Defoe?

This thread originally started because people are disappointed in Townsend, but of the four wins this season he has played all but about 25 minutes. Does that mean he is actually our key player?

Well thank you for the debate. No point in continuing , you cannot see why I cannot see anything in Cabaye and I cannot see why you can.

Back to Townsend , I thought he was doing OK and settling in still as only been here since start of season , not a season and a half, but when he got dropped for the Liverpool game , for Chungy , it seems to have destroyed his confidence.

Interesting. A previously banned poster who endlessly trots out comments that most disagree with. A fairly bold, sometimes narked writing style...I'm not saying that you are a troll but that is how you come across

Not everyone wants Pardew to be booted out, why can't I say he should be given more time for the players to sort out their defending and anyway trolls normally go against a club and fans of it, I'm standing up for Mr Pardew and Mr Pardew is at this moment of time the figurehead of this club, also nobody actually knows how this is all going to pan out do they, for all we know the players might do brilliantly well and end up in the top ten, that could very easily make Pardew look good and everyone who wants him out ...trolls.

Cabaye has been largely disappointing, but in his last outing he managed to bring everyone together and he did it for most of the game, a rarity and one we should all hope he continues against Watford, Townsend needs to sort himself out and only he can do that.

Agree entirely.

Cabaye improved with Flamini to play off, which I think is no coincidence.

I suspect Townsend has some kind of motivation problem, which is why he was available when Newcastle wanted him. Just couldn't keep up a decent level week in week out at Spurs.
