Disappointing, I prefer to think.

West Ham were weak....and we managed to play worse than them. It's disappointing in terms of looking for consistency.

I was kind of hoping we were going to be a top half side this season...somewhere between ten and seventh position....But that was a performance befitting a relegation side.

Selhurst Park - the ground teams come to when they're on a 5hit run and are guaranteed 3 points

Absolute rubbish from start to finish, unacceptable performance

Benteke in particular wasn't at his best. We can't rely on individual players be on top of their game ALL the time. We were the better team second half and not just after the sending off.

As another poster said, it really reminded me of last season, where we just couldn't score despite dominating play. Either our wingers had a s*** final ball or, when they smashed in a peach of a cross (rare) Benteke or whoever would fluff their lines.

Lessons: Cabaye looked really good. I say go back to McArthur/Cabaye in the middle next game.

Delaney needs to stop hoofing it. This was much better second half when we had Cabaye on. When Dann's back, Delaney drops to the bench for me.

Wingers, as usual, need to work on decision making. Townsend kept trying to go the long way round when that wasn't always the right decision. Zaha electing to beat the man when 2 feet from the back line instead of just poking it back in (did his whole 'beat the man 3 times thing' again today too).

Kelly is relatively solid defensively but doesn't offer a HUGE amount going forward. Prefer Souare. Couldn't really see what Fryers did wrong but he didn't add a lot. Was better at getting up the pitch I guess.

Benteke had a bad game by his standards. This, as I mentioned above, means we need more of a plan b if this happens again. For me, this is why Cabaye starts so we can play to feet a bit more.

Steve is immense and I feel much more confident with him in goal than Hennessy. Shame he hasn't kept a clean sheet yet.

So: not disastrous, we weren't at our best, but the international break was always going to balls up our momentum.

Onwards to Leicester!

Obs second half was much better but you know in first 15 mins when we didn't win one header from a cross, why did AP tactics persists?

Too many poor individual performances today but fair play to Bilic his 3-5-2 did the trick.Beneteke and Townsend wont play as bad as that for the rest of the season and Ledley looked leg weary from the 1st minute. Biggest positive was Cabaye pulling the strings again I just pray that he can start games and do it as he will set the tone from the off if he can.My only criticism of AP today is that he should have had the balls to get Ledley off after 30 minutes it was blatantly obvious he was struggling from the off.On a personal level if I ever meet Trevor Francis in person I swear to god I will bitch slap him,he is an odious prick and even manages to surpass the desire I have to split Shearers head in two.I really really do fancy us at Leicester next week providing we turn up.

Indeed. Pardew out!

I said earlier that we have no right to beat them, and so it proved. We weren't shocking, but they played better. They don't warrant their position in the league at the moment, but neither do we.

It's early days.

He's always too slow to change things around. The top managers would have changed things as soon as they realised it wasn't working, Pardew doesn't react quick enough

Yeah that was frustrating but what could he do really?! The only thing Pardew tried was swapping the wingers. He could easily have instructed Kelly and Ward to push up more than they did perhaps.

However, he made the right subs at halftime (maybe; Fryers ultimately didn't add a lot but Ledley and Kelly needed to come off). It's pretty ballsy to have taken them off before half time!
