We will struggle if we get no more reinforcements in midfield, not looking good with this deal and Wilshere looks to be joining Bournemouth. Unless a McCarthy deal is being done very quietly, I'm a little worried.

SSN reporter at Sunderland said they are in talks about loan for McCarthy along with 2 other clubs....West Brom and Palace.

Whats the point of a loan if Macarthy is injured and needs an operation?

Listening to Talksport earlier- one of their "International" reporters who said that Rincon was very similar to Jedinak.
Said Ricon was a better distributor but not as good as Jedi in defence - also Rincon is slow.

One of his greatest strengths is his speed! The videos show that -and the Venezualan who contributed a great post to this thread earlier on confirmed it.
I'm convinced this guy is far better than Jedi - much as I like him and appreciate how much he did for us when he was our stand out player. As someone else said, he doesn't have Jedi's aerial power, but in all other respects I'm prepared to believe that Rincon is a step up & would have been (I'm hoping he still might be) a hugely influential signing for us.

I guess it means that we can get it over the line today, whereas if we have to wait for his operation then it will not be until January, but with no long term commitment that would require a medical.

Just guessing though.

I believe Everton are in for Sissiko. If that goes through, they may recoup by selling McCarthy on...maybe to Palace. But why pay so much for a player who needs a groin operation?

I heard that as well. That was Tim Vickery, an excellent football journalist based in Brazil who knows a great deal about South American players.

I liked what I had read and heard about Rincon over the past few days, but was a little disappointed to hear he was 'a little bit old' (he's 28 years old), 'isn't the quickest' and that Jedinak was better defensively. He does seem to have some great attributes though, as according to Vickery he 'links the play very well', is 'good on the ball' and has 'a nice range of passing'.

You can hear the short interview here from 13:11 in the 15:00-15:30 segment: [Link]

You can also hear an interview with Palace fan Mark Butcher from 21:06.

Yes it was a short interview. Didn't impress me that much. I guess I'm sold and will be hard to budge.

Id be interested to hear from ColombianCharlie about Colombia's 2-0 win over Venezuela & how well Tomas Rincon played. I see Colombia are performing really well in the WC qualifying games - with James Rodrigues excelling. Would have loved to have seen him in the EPL this season.
Meanwhile I think Venezuela might be heading for the wooden spoon in the qualifiers. Is Rincon a good player in a weak national team or have we been getting excited about someone who's not as good as we thought?

The game was live here in the US. I watched out of curiosity and was not that impressed. He looked busy and his passing was better than Jedi's, but the latter could be said of most players. That being said, Venezuela were poor and Colombia easily could have won by 4-5 goals (they missed two penalties).

If you come to a fork in the road, take it.
