See, the thing is this. I want my yellow card back so I feel the need to follow any expression of sense with a wan attempt to offend someone. If the Mods would just give me the damn card (and I have asked once or twice) then I could get on with being well behaved all of the time.

I hope there's options to buy, first refusal etc built into the deal, otherwise it's a bit of a waste of a loan slot. I'll be slightly disappointed if it's just a loan; I wanted us to sign the bloke. Edited by Leicestershireeagle (21 Jul 2015 8.12am)

Having got exasperated at some of the sh*t a significant number of palace fans have been saying about this signing, I've found one positive: How far have we come when palace fans moan about the championship player of the year coming to play for us? Four years ago there was anger at not signing Jose Baxter after a trial!

Loan back a 'Sanogoals' or a Bamford - no brainer. If we aren't going to get a Remy then I would rather go with what we have, added to with a player of Bamfords potential and wait until we can get in a forward player we want rather than piss a few million up the wall and perhaps utilise the cash 'saved' for a bang on CB to partner Scott Dann. I still wouldn't discount Remy coming yet, perhaps not now but in the next window - I don't think we are even seriously after Austin at that price.

So if Bamford is a waste of a loan spot who would you suggest that we did take on loan? It's hard to make an accurate assessment of any deal without seeing the bigger picture; we don't know what's in the pipeline. I get the benefits of the loan, but I'd be slightly disappointed if we weren't making plans for a long term transfer. I've said earlier that I rate Bamford highly. I think to 'just' loan Bamford would lack value when you've only got two loan spots, but it would be great business if there's options to buy built into the deal. Zaha and Puncheon are good examples of loan deals where we've mitigated any risk of an outright deal, and it's just a personal preference. Maybe it's naive, but you'd expect loans to come in at the end of the window to fill gaps where transfers have fallen through. Like I said, we don't know the full picture so it's a bit premature to jump the gun, but I would personally be disappointed if weren't trying to secure Bamford long term.

As I posted a week or so ago, according the agent Paul Smith there is virtually no interest in Austin at all, from anyone. This would seem to be borne out by the facts...tons of column inches but absolutely nothing happening. Given that he wants to stay in London, my feeling is that if we (or West Ham) had ever really wanted Austin, the deal would be done by now. It's not rocket science. The pursuit of Remy and signing of Bamford suggest that we are simply not and never were interested.

I am wondering if we will keep our powder dry till January now that Bamford. Most Prem clubs of our ilk take up and coming youngsters as their loan signings and we have definitely got one of the best. Huge upgrade on Sanogo. We will probably find out later if we are going for another striker if any of our forwards are not on the plane to South Africa.

Bear in mind that it is another excellent shop window for Bamford and he gets his chance in the Prem. He could go anywhere after us, but hopefully what we show him of this club he will fall in love with.

My take on it as well Syd - 15m, if indeed QPR are holding out for 15m suggest that he is a very long way from what we consider a reasonable valuation if, if, we are even interested.

Think this is a quality signing really. We have an excellent midfield, which creates and scores with additional depth which provides cover for the defence. With pre-season under our belt, I believe our front line has the quality to maintain that mid-table finish with Murray (stalwart target man) and two pacey forwards in Gayle and Bamford. The loan signing gives us more freedom to solidify the back line and provide more depth to the squad. It is massively important we stay in the league this season with the huge TV deal coming into place the season after. It is essential we focus our efforts from the back moving forward. Should we need to throw cash at the table now is not the time. We have an excellent group of players who can create loads, our problems have been conceeding. Cut that out and we are pretty much there for another season. Baby steps people, remember where we have come from. One Cabaye does not make us a top ten team. The team of battlers last season did, lets not rip that team up!!
Another exciting pre-season ....... |
