Questions for lefties among us.

Why wasnt there the same criticism of the electoral system last time Labour won ?

With support from both Lib Dems and UKIP for electoral reform it's a cross party issue that has started to rear its head more on account of the diminishing percentage of the vote the major two parties return. It's quite stark. Check it out.

So the 'protestors' with their Socialist Worker placards are out on the street because of the lack of proportional representation in the electoral system?

You obviously didn't read my post stating that it was an anti austerity demo. Selective reading, a bit like another poster.

Just like your doppelganger you ask trite questions that you know the answer to.

You obviously don't realise that I wasn't referring to your post, but to imbored's.

This won't be the last rally/protest you will see in the next 5 years in this country I believe.

Oooooh ! I'm sure David Cameron is running scared after securing a majority government.

I'd have a hell of a lot more sympathy for them it it were a demo against the voting system.

We voted for austerity - the people have spoken. You may argue that the odds were stacked because of FPTP (and I'd wholeheartedly agree), but it just looks like petulence to campaign against something literally days after the great british electorate have endorsed it

Their feelings obviously run high then.

odd though, do you not agree. Austerity was (among other things) put to the country, the country said a resounding 'yes, please', and then there are protests.

so are they just protesting about the electorate not voting the way they wanted them to?

Maybe they, or people they know, are affected.
Maybe those who voted for austerity aren't doing too bad and unaware of what the cuts mean to some people's living conditions. It's not like that sort of thing is covered in news media.

The 3 people in my road I've spoken to since Thursday said they voted Tory because they wanted the chance to buy their council/housing association housing. Seems to have been a big vote winner that one!

As long as Dave embarks on a mass house build. Jobs for builders, new schools, affordable... so that those sold are replaced.

What do they expect to achieve from all this?

Looks like the Socialist worker nutters getting all the students and great unwashed together for a bit of anarchy. Sad and pathetic

To show their unhappy with what is happening?
Kind of obvious really.

''Sad and pathetic'' is a two-way street.

Unhappy with what is happening? What, unhappy that the likes of TUSC were totally humiliated in the election, so they just try to cause trouble like a bunch of Millwall fans after a defeat.

TUSC were not humiliated. Their first campaign saw their profile rise, they gained PEB exposure.

Who knows whether they'll still be about come the next election, knowing the left, probably not!, but be interesting how much support they garner.

As for the protest, it was mainly peaceful from what I've heard, except for a flash point which 'conveniently' happened to be right by the press...

As for the graffiti, very crass behaviour.

You think that losing all of their deposits and averaging 269 votes per constituency that they collapsed in is not humiliating!

'Mainly peaceful' LOL. 'conveniently' happened to be right by the press...' MI5 plants were they then? agent provocateur? Mossad?

Not just a mob of Socialist Worker placard waving trouble makers then.

It seems the majority of people on here think those present on Sunday were fundamentally wrong. How come it's only the lefties that protest against protests?
