I didn't realise that all their contracts on Top Gear are up soon, and they were due to sign new 3 year contracts. BBC are in a very difficult situation now. If they sack Clarkson, then May and Hammond can walk as well very soon. What are the odds that Sky are lining up a megabucks offer of a new show ? A show they could potentially sell around the world. BBC follow rules and potentially lose millions. That could mean they can no longer finance other shows that they make. Dilemma, eh ?
Fed up with BBC interference he can walk away and set up another show on Sky/ITV which would replace Top Gear's world dominance instantly. I think I would have been p1ssed off too if I was offered a cold meal at 10pm after a long days filming.
Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky. |

The (faux or otherwise) outrage at Clarkson and his outbursts isn't really relevant. Clarkson allegedly thumped a colleague. If you or I or anyone else did that then we would be suspended and ultimately sacked. That's it. It isn't complicated in principle. The problem for the BBC is that they want to keep him. There's no PC brigade desperate to oust him in the BBC. They are desperate to keep him because he makes them money.

If there truly was some PC leftist cabal running the BBC as some on here suggest, then Clarkson would have been out the door without being able to pack his bags the second he raised his hands to someone. The fact he hasn't been and is solely suspended shows that the BBC - as a commercial entity - is desperately seeking a way of keeping hold of one of its main assets commercially.

A family who witnessed the Top Gear presenter's outburst tells Sky he engaged in an expletive-ridden rant for up to half-an-hour.
So why shouldn't he be sacked?

They're all free to walk away next month if they wanted to. Clarkson was however the one who brought the incident to the attention of the BBC bosses, not the producer.
