Those who flippantly cast aside the wonderful wisdom of Christs' words and undermine others who try and live their lives in a good way through them - even if they are made up. Which they are. But who cares they are so good - are projecting their own cluelessness. And I'm an atheist

The bigger question for me is why anyone would use a football website to preach? Still it's done now. In for a penny... If you find the answer to a question is "Because I have faith" then the danger is you stop looking for a proper, definable answer, believe what you are told to believe and consider yourself superior to those who fail to agree. The progression (if that is indeed what it is) of human existence has in the past been helped by the kind of ordered moral system and sense of community created by organised religion, but the problem with defining a belief literally is that it becomes questionable, and at times laughable, with the passing of time. The struggle over "which thing to believe" is inherently pointless, although not confined to religion. Organised religion for me is an horrific concept, but the right of the individual to find a way of living that enables them to live a life of happiness and comfort is something worth defending. The understanding that there is no right to force that individual answer upon others would go a long way but human nature is such that even if there was no religion, we'd be killing each other of which colour of hair is right or something. In short, Jamie has destroyed everyone on this thread and not once belittled an opinion. He is my God. I think what you will fine is believers reacting/defending themselves against the bile and insults that pour our way. I have yet to see a Christian start a faith based thread on this site, plenty of people who aren't do though.

eternal hell sounds a bit much for anyone. Churches now don't even mention it. They know that nobody wants to hear it. They'll tell you it once they've entrapped you but it will never be a part of the initial intro. sounds pretty rubbish to me. The one thing they won't acknowledge is their complete disregard for the environment which all religious people should make an effort to take care of. Most environmentalists are becoming vegan or at least cutting down on the meat they are eating as they understand there is a link between diet and the state of the environment. Its a shame that christians arent trying to do something similar. People like william booth(founder of the salvation army), ellen white (founder of the 7th day adventists) and william wilberforce (who was a christian and helped to found the rspca)acknowledged that animals should be respected and they, as christians should be prominent in setting an example of showing respect to them. This was in a time long before factory farming and before much was known about the importance of a diet free of red meat and the impact of diet on the environment. Christians may go to heaven but their disregard for the state of the environment is a shame as they should really be the ones setting an example.
How on earth do you get to Christians not caring about the environment, on the spurious basis that most are meat eaters?!
i'm going on about the fact that christians unlike environmentalists, who don't generally label themselves as Christians, are doing more for the environment than those that are supposed to be the stewards of the earth. The minimum of knowledge is the reason why many environmentalists are foresaking meat. If Christians want to take care of the environment (Most don't seem to be too concerned about it although i realise there are christian organisations who are making an effort to make people more aware) then maybe they need to acknowledge the connection between diet and its effects on the environment.
yah, it could be and if it helps to create a more peaceful, harmonious world where people take care of the planet i'm sure most people, religious or not, would be happy about that.
