I think that (as with most things in life) its not what you say....but how you say it.

Not on this forum as anyone who has an alternative point of view to the mainstream is derided and insulted with the same people who seem incapable of having a rational discussion being the main culprits

I would agree in the main...but some come out with a lot of sense...they just deliver it in a high handed manner...which only serves to put peoples backs up. A certain few on here seem to excellent at being contrary without debating both sides. Consequently its a Mexican standoff with both feeling they're right, arguing their corner without considering the others points.

I don't know if that was aimed at me (and I'm not offended if it was) but just in case I would point out that I have gone to considerable pains to openly question myself, to make it clear that some of my opinions are just that -- opinions, and I have also openly moderated some views when opposing arguments have persuaded me to do so. I've never thought I was "right"...at best, I just to try to base my views on well thought out considerations.

No names Syd...its simply an observation missed by a lot on here who are just as bad (in a different way) as those they claim to be victims of.

We've all seen it on here over the last few years, it seems the art of debate isnt lost on here...just the willingness to listen to others views without shouting them down to then get ours across. I'm sure im just as guilty at times myself

A lot of good points have been made on here and in amongst them all is a good thread

Yes, I agree with this point -- on all sides, I would add.

Interesting one From the BBS 'questions to the board' forum - they (CpFC2010) were asked about teams around us strengthening. Here's the response:

If we are sitting around watching other teams buy players who are no better than what we have already for £5m transfer fees on £2m a year wages on 4 year contracts then that doesnt bother me.

We will always put sound business practice and the long term security of CPFC ahead of panic purchases.

We will strengthen the squad but we will not be ripped off.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm quite happy with that attitude.

So we can deduce from that they think Cameron Jerome is the equal of Long or Jelavic. I see. Honestly, no. If that is what they think then my comment about the board needing to stay out of football matters is bang on. And no, I'm not happy with an attitude that will get us relegated.

I agree !

Jelavic has scored 2 goals in a year ! We have defenders with a better scoring record ! We do need strengthening there's no disputing that but let's get the right player and not get mugged off in the process ! It's not ideal but I think most of our business will be done on the last day as it was in August and without doubt 3 points on Tuesday against Hull will make us a far more attractive move !

It's politicians talk though as he really isn't telling us anything.

For starters why would we want to buy anybody who is no better than what we already have irrespective of transfer fee or wages unless it is purely for backup - and that's not an area that we really have problems with at the moment.

Secondly the comment about putting "sound business practice and the long term security of CPFC ahead of panic purchases" is again politikspeak as no-one is suggesting that we get involved in panic buys again.

All of us know what is needed and a shortlist of suitable candidates should have been drawn up ages ago so that there is no last minute panic buys.

The interesting comment is that "we will not be ripped off" as that is the one comment that no-one can debate as we don't know what the board considers to be rip off prices etc and who they might be referring to.

Only eight more days to go though so hopefully we will be seeing some activity soon

Always important to remember that the club belongs to owners and they are the ones who have the right to decide how to spend the money.
Supporters cannot have the arrogance to make statements like "board should stay out of football matters" and " I am not happy with attitude". If you are not happy ...are you going to put your hand in your pocket and fork out their wages". Know your place.

Remember how David Oleary overspent at Leeds and then the club went into oblivion and Portsmouth, wolves are more recent examples.

I agree that Shane Long & Jelavic are better than Jerome, but maybe not Murray and I don't think better than Chamakh. Relying on Murray is more a gamble than the players just mentioned, and I hope they're confident they'll strengthen with quality in the Chamakh/Guediora level staying below the £5mil or £4mil fee mark.

The problem they have is not having a loan space left to offer a short-term wage without a perm contract and being turned down because of the relegation/yo-yo wage clause.

Fair point...but would you say there was enough difference to pay the money that has been spent on these as opposed to having someone of 'similar' ability on loan? For me Long is the better out of the 3 but he's still only scored 3 goals so far this season and yet cost £7m plus wages! Too much of a risk in my opinion.

Legally you are correct as a football club is no different to any other limited company in that the directors run it on behalf of the shareholders but even our current board have admitted that ownership of a football club gives them a moral duty towards the fans and local community as effectively they are custodians of the club as well as owners.

They are two big ifs but if we don't add to our strike force this January and if as a consequence we end up being relegated I have a feeling that not being happy with the board's attitude will be the very least of the comments that will be made
