I could kiss you syd for that clarification. (Fuels suspicion that Hoof is gay) French? (Fuels suspicion that Syd has added Hoof to Funty on his gay hitlist) Edited by sydtheeagle (17 Jan 2014 10.49am)

The thing is Maple and with respect I think your missing the point no pun intended but I think what most people are saying on here is that IF we have or signed a openly gay player then the vast majority of the Palace fans would not give two hoots and get behind him, again no pun intended. What you seem to be saying is that we should actively go out and find a gay player just so we can be regarded as cool and that is what people are finding a bit.. well .. not really how constructing a skillful sporting team is all about really.
From the more recent part of this thread, it seems we are aligned, we would support an out gay player. Maybe we could indeed put it about that if an outstanding player wanted to come out then we would welcome him joining us, may get some real talent on the cheap.

I was thinking how cool it would be to have the first openly gay Prem League footballer. Maybe even two. I think we are uniquely placed to live with the consequences, a tight-knit supportive club and group of fans, based in a highly cosmopolitan place. And we don't give a monkey's what anyone else thinks. Any views? I am sure there will be a range. I am certain Palace have had many gay players. Like the other teams in the Prem I bet Palace already have at least two now. They just need the bravery to come out foe their own sake. So what have we learned so far: 1 It doesn't matter if someone is openly gay, nobody cares Did I get it all correct? Doesn't anyone find it boring being so flaming predictable, can't we all try something a bit radical for a change?
(sorry, couldnt resist it)
How do you encourage coming out for footballers? Singing, 'Oh South London is wonderful, it's full of heterosexuals, homosexuals and bi-sexuals, oh South London is wonderful?' Or playing Jimmy Sommerville tracks, or a couple of boy dancers in The Crystals for the women and gays? A serious point here, and some of what I've just said has some seriousness to it, maybe all this kind of encouraging coming out puts just as much pressure on a gay player as much as him keeping it PRIVATE for his limited time as a footballer, something he might just do without when trying to compete for his place, club, career, contract.... Probably why I couldn't give a sh1t which Palace player is gay or not. Leave him to it, his life and job.
But by the way I have never said I encourage someone to come out, it's there choice. What I would say, strongly, is that we should get ready for such an eventuality and make sure when it happens we are at our supportive best. It's what we do, we are Palace.

I'd be very surprised if TP's scouting network wasn't following the priority order this transfer window: 1) A gay player He won't have overlooked the need for a gay player, trust me. It's about time the Football Manager franchise added players s*xuality to their stats as well because the other day I wanted to find a player with at least 15 for heading, 14 for balance and ideally bi-s*xual but the filters weren't there so I had to settle for someone with unknown s*xuality. I lost 6-0 in my next game.
Sorry if that all sounds a bit woofy

Robbie rogers an ex leeds player who came out recently was on the pitch at half time at elland road and got a brilliant reception . whether an opposition gay player would get the same reception there I`m not sure . I agree with Kermit and others , these days its just name calling but you never know how the mob would re act .

(sorry, couldnt resist it) When Brighton were last at Selhurst, I had as always the pleasure of the train journey from London Bridge with them. As there were way more of them than us at Norwood Junction they got a a bit loud for a while. In a gap one of us shouted "We can see you holding hands" and even a couple of their lads laughed. That's harmless fun. Brighton is the gay capital of England, they are from Brighton, therefore they are gay. Its a very mild insult along the lines of being the opposite of manly.
