Best gig I ever went to was at The Valley in 1974 - The bands on that day were (not too sure of the order) Montrose THE WHO

Shane MacGowan and the Popes These all qualify for best but for different reasons. The Shane show was after the first Popes album so he did mostly Pogues tunes. Great time in the pit and many, many shots of whiskey. Special Beat was great because I knew the words to every song and was hoarse for three days afterwards. The Elvis gig was the first time in 16 years he played in St. Louis. It was just him and Steve Nieve on piano. He did five encores in what wound up being a three hour show.

I've been to a few superb ones recently but for me the best one was Oasis at V2005. f***ing awesome, they were some class acts there like The Zutons, The Prodigy, Goldfrapp and The Streets but they were just head and shoulders above any gig I've ever seen. Including Oasis themselves at MK, Coldplay at Crystal Palace, R.E.M at Hyde Park and The Chemical Brothers at Brighton.

There are several for me: System of a Down at the Brixton Academy March 2002 Hopefully Coldplay in December will excede these. All the bands are good, but it's not necessarily for the bands that they were good. The atmosphere and the people I was with made these the best.

It's changed twice now over the course of three days... Art Brut at the Cartoon, but now the simply amazing Go! Team at the Astoria. So much energy and passion, absolutely brilliant.

Mine has now changed. My second ever gig was better than the first, so Art Brut at the Cartoon was now the best gig ive been to, but the NME Rock n Roll Riot tour might just change things..
