Will always remember being at the Chelsea cup match and Big Mal, on that day. A Larger than life personality, and a legend. RIP.

Came to Palace long after the Big Mal era. My memory is of him confidently predicting Palace's win over Liverpool in the 1990 Cup semi. It's ironic he should pass on the day Liverpool avoids administration. A real Palace hero, sorry to see him go.

My dad is gutted and choked. As a 14 year old he wrote to Big Mal and asked if he could sit on the bench with the managment and playing staff.
Big Mal sent a letter back inviting my dad to meet the players at training. He arrived at Selhurst to be met by Big Mal and then was taken to The Crystal Palace athletic track in Big Mals Jag and trained with the players until 1pm. He was then taken back to Selhurst in Vince Hillares sponsored Mark 1 Escort and had lunch at the old Crystal Palce Club House wich used to be were the Sainsburys car park is now.
He has some great memories of the day including cleaning Terry Venables and Taff Evams boots.

RIP Big Mal a real Palace legend

Curly eagles dad, 45 years of Palace. Never ever a dull moment, Oh Happy Days

During the summer of '76 (while involved in the Campaign For Palace repainting of the barriers, signs etc in the stadium) I had the very simple pleasure of looking out from one of the Arthur Wait 'tunnels' to see Big Mal and a young Terry Veneables standing on the green pitch (impressive in itself given the lack of water that year!) exchanging ideas and kicking a ball about to some purpose.

I realised then, that no matter what may happen off the field, and let's be honest reputations meant things were, both loved football and Big Mal did whatever he could to impart his knowledge and skills to others.

A bright and flambouyant era has come to an end. I really wish he had come to the 30 year celebrations of 1979. He may not have been a direct part of it, but he had a 'Big Mal' hand in it.

I'm too young to remember Big Mal but I have heard and read a hell of a lot about him. Just wish I had been born years earlier than I was so I could have seen him in the dug out at Palace.

RIP Big Mal xx
