People always then want a change and the other party gets in a few years down the road. Edited by XKudu (04 Jul 2024 1.18pm) UK National Debt in 2008 was just over half a trillion £. It's now nearly £3 trillion. National Debt now is 105% of GDP, compared with 45% in 2008. But yeah, Labour left the 'truly bankrupt' economy because they left a note.

The economy is improving so I don’t buy this Labour narrative that they’ll inherit a total bankrupt mess and won’t be able to do anything for years and years. Sounds like a preemptive excuse to me anticipating their own future failings and mismanagement. Talk about a defeatist attitude. They should be more positive. They have a real chance to do something. Ironically wasn’t it Labour that left the Tories with a truly bankrupt economy and a note saying “sorry there’s no money left” The Tories managed to turn things round so should Labour from an even stronger baseline. I think it's healthy for management to change periodically, it balances things out and can keep things fresh. It's like going from a Defensive manager to an attacking manager - for the first 6 months you can find that a happy medium is struck and the system works well.

Just been to exercise my francise. As it was very quiet in the Polling Station I took great delight in standing in the booth with my pencil poised, audibly playing "dit, dot, do" 5 times (we have 6 candidates)before marking the ballot paper and exiting to put it in the box. The look on the faces of the 2 guys running the station was a picture.

They were sitting on their bums when I went in, they were still so when I left, and the actually get a good rate for working the day, so my 'having a joke' made absolutely no difference to their day whatsoever, other than maybe giving them a bit of light relief.

We gave the clerks a laugh...we took our dog into the polling station. He'd never been in there before and must have assumed that we were going to leave him there. He howled for a full two minutes.
hats off to palace, they were always gonna be louder, and hate to say it but they were impressive ALL bouncing and singing. |

Edited by XKudu (04 Jul 2024 1.18pm) that's pathetic. As has been stated the national debt is now over 100% of GDP, our overall tax burden is the highest it has been since the 2nd world war, but of course don't trust Labour as they will raise your taxes. And who cares if CGT is raised - it's very low now and only c400k pay it each year, whereas c40m people pay income tax, so the impact is on 1% of the population.

I can assure you they don't get a good rate because up to and including the recent Police Commissioner elections, I've been a poll clerk myself for the last 5 years. I finally decided 'enough is enough' primarily due to the number of knob-heads you have to deal with; their knob-headery made worse by the requirement for them to bring photo ID. Quite. And shall we raise the promises Starmer made during his leadership campaign?

'Voted' early. Or rather when in and drew three lines over my ballot paper. And to my surprise, walked out feeling exhilarated! Totally unexpected reaction. Now tomorrow I might feel different, and once upon a time I would have been my harshest critic for taking such an action but today...it just felt right. I fully accept arguments about how puerile such a gesture is but as things stand, am still buzzing. f*** Democracy.
