In what sense? Besides being a very good coach (which he is), people are romanticising this beyond belief. There’s a reason he’s out of a job and whilst nobody knows for sure, it’s almost certainly linked with some sort of a breakdown in relationship between the Wolves hierarchy and Jorge Mendes. There were numerous reports last season of Mendes trying to get Nuno installed as manager of Villa, holding the Wolves board to ransom if they refused to carry on spending in the manner they had in recent years. Wolves have spent big bucks ever since Nuno was appointed. They spent 35mil on a right back last season ffs. Even if we can give assurances to Nuno of funds for the upcoming season, it still won’t be funds of that nature and our owners aren’t going to be plunging that sort of money into the club on a sustained basis. If Nuno comes with Mendes, which he will, the politics associated with him are a recipe for disaster. He’s the number one candidate on paper. But only on paper. IF (and it’s a big if) we can genuinely bring him to the club, it’s not the utopia Palace fans are currently suggesting. Edited by Mstrobez (01 Jun 2021 5.58pm) So roughly speaking the 7th place finishes equates to 7th highest outlay on transfers?

Steve parish must work quickly to get Nuno or Everton will pounce and that happens a lot to us with transfers .. Even with Dyche pay him the 3 compensation + 7 million to him , if it means staying in premiership it’s a small price to pay , Brentford coming up it’s worth 180mill to them from what bbc said , but like I’ve said my money is on Cooper as we’re so tight with spending and he’s easy to sack if we struggle

Tottenham,Everton,Wolves and of course us all managerless in the PL.

The issue is the way in which manages cope with having a distinctly average squad of players - some accept it and adjust their tactics accordingly (Dyche), some ignore it and aim for the stars anyway (Hassenhuttl), whilst some throw a massive hissy fit time and again until a parting of the ways is inevitable (Benetiz). Fact is, we just don't know how Nuno copes with an average squad of players.

So roughly speaking the 7th place finishes equates to 7th highest outlay on transfers? Not necessarily, no. Liverpool were arguably the best team in the world for the couple of seasons preceding the last and their net spend was nowhere near their rivals. We were nowhere near relegation despite having a minus net spend under Roy. Burnley are consistently low spenders and are swerving relegation every year. United have spent staggering amounts since Sir Alex left and haven’t really won anything significant. Valérien Ismaël, the guy I’m routing for to join Palace finished 5th in the championship on a budget of next to nothing. This could go on. The point is this, Wolves aren’t in the position they are as a result of "pluckiness" and defying the odds. They are where they are as a result of spending big and hiring a very good manager. But there is a reason that manager has left the club and even those with the biggest links to Wolves aren’t entirely sure what it is. If it were simply wanting to return to Portugal as reported initially, he wouldn’t be joining another club in England. If it’s not down to that, and he joins Palace of all clubs, there is a good chance that it’s political, Mendes is involved and as soon as the board refuse to bow down to his demands, he’ll jump the Palace ship, too. Whilst Nuno would be the headline appointment - that doesn’t make him the best fit for the club. If he were coming no strings attached it would definitely be a coup, but he won’t. Dom Fyfield - usually not too far off Palace news quoted by HITC - Speaking on The Totally Football Show, Fifield said: “I would say one of Nuno (Espirito Santo), Sean Dyche or Valérien Ismaël, any point next week.” I would be delighted with any of those - hope it’s right!
