Sainsbury’s in Crayford, Dave? Mrs YT and I used to combine a trip there with a visit to the dog track next door. I know how to treat a lady! The dog track's still there and the Sainsbury's is massive as it expanded into what was the Homebase.

How are they planning to Presumably by reducing the depth of the Whitehorse Lane Stand.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave Originally there was talk of either a brand new stadium located elsewhere or a rejuvenation of 'Selhurst Park' "Stand by stand" so the narrative was that if we remained in situ, all 4 stands would be replaced. Whilst of course the new Main Stand looks rather magnificent and the overall upgrade most welcome and impressive , clearly only one of the 4 stands will see a significant improvement and we will still have the outdated 'Arthur Wait'. That said, projects can change depending on circumstances and finances and it is welcoming to see committment to upgrading the facilities at the ground - it is very much needed ! A great deal of effort has gone into where we are now and I dare say the road ahead will also be littered with obstacles.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave Maybe I'm out of touch , but this seems a huge amount of money for one stand? Haven't clubs built a whole new stadium for this or not much more?

I suppose it's about right for such an elaborate stand that's being built without closing the existing one. There could be an argument made for a new, but less ambitious, Main Stand project with something also being done with the Arthur Waite. That way we'd have ended up with a bit of balance.

I suspect that if our fortunes on the field decline and our transfer activity is limited there will be siren voices who will advocate that the project is far to ambitious and some of the finances could have been spent on players.

A new build from the ground up is much easier & cheaper than working with and incorporating an existing structure - especially if you want to retain use of it. The most cost effective option is to build new at a different site but that assumes that land is available & the club wants to relocate - neither apply to us.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave It is obviously a stand-by-stand approach for a new stadium, and there are many reasons why only one stand is being rebuilt for the time being: Our uncertainty over staying in The Prem, with the money and fans that brings The Safety Certificate is overdue on the Main Stand, so that is a priority. Remedial works would be costly, so much more cost effective to do a rebuild. If we get Planning Permission for this stand, then it makes it easier to get permission for the other stands, in due course. CPFC did not want to ground-share with anyone whilst the stadium was rebuilt. A stand-by-stand approach would better facilitate this. As Willo said, I'm sure there is a coherent design/strategy for the other stands which will all make sense, in due course.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave I'm not too worried about Sainsburys. They will clearly have put a high price on the land actually needed for the development knowing full well that they'll not get it & a compromise will be reached. This is made easier these days if the redevelopment can be shown to benefit the community at large & wider local economy - something that the consultants involved are very good at. Assuming this is the case, the whole project will sit nicely within the LA's 'masterplan' for the area. Recent experience with a client of mine has shown that they will not hesitate to CPO a few parking spaces once this box has been ticked & it does seem that we have brought the right people in to get that done.
