I decided to play the Russian anthem at full blast and I can assure you that during it I made several audible sighs and at one point I even shouted 'No' loudly, booed and hissed and even wagged my finger in a manner which an observer could have said was in a semi aggressive manner. For anyone who wants to join me in this response to the war here is a link to the anthem so that you can make a small difference as well. Was that after copying the training in Rocky IV?

It’s funny listening to Russians say Drago’s dialogue in the ring is complete gibberish and not Russian at all. ‘’He is like a piece of iron’’ nobody knew what he was saying with ‘’laser’’ at the end. The training scenes are damn impressive, even though they were both on advanced steroids. Still got to train, and Stallone was genetically strong anyway. Not many can do one handed pull ups and press ups.

That was lost in the showy bombast of 3 and 4....and 5 was just a weird movie....notable for a young Tommy Morrison who later died after his career....far too young. The Rocky Balboa comeback movie impressed me a lot and was a return to the film's roots....I haven't seen the Creed movies. It's weird that Sylvester Stallone is still making movies....this guy is so old now he could play Gandalf's dad.

I recall very few, if any, criticisms of ordinary Russian citizens in this thread. People sensibly appear to have sympathy for the impact on this war on their lives, and their inability to access truthful information or to be able to peacefully protest. The buck stops with Putin. Even those around him appear to have little say in the direction of travel.

"Russian forces restrict access to external communication, block access to mobile networks and internet at Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, the International Atomic Energy Agency said on March 6. All operations of the plant’s staff require approval by Russian commander."

I got home from work on Friday and found my wife had whatapped me a photo of a lion and a Ukraine flag. She asked me to forward it to friends as it sends a powerful message and 'we have to do something'. Russia puts an inordinate amount of effort into trying to craft a clearly false narrative around what is happening right now. So I don't think we can trivialise online messaging meaning something as a starting point. That said clearly putting up a flag isn't going to change anything, but its at least a signal of support for something decent, from which some will do more. Beyond that people can argue, or donate or show factual information or whatever. The general or perceived feeling in nations (via online activity and protests) can filter through to companies and governments, just as online disinformation can achieve the very opposite (else it wouldn't exist an a massive industry). That's about the extent for something that people are clearly within their rights to be worried about, but are limited in what they can reasonably do about it. It's certainly no less valid than posts that defend aspects of what's going on, diminish them, or moan about how 'terrible the UK or the west is' claiming its on a par with Russia. What exactly does that achieve either? Technology has done a lot worse to people than make them think that putting little flags up for countries being invaded is doing something meaningful. The anti western voices that profess a love for country but manage to do it down at every turn. The 'we're terrible too, Putin is a strong leader' types who undermine what is happening instead of acknowledging it. Is that 'more' useful than a basic show of support for something as grotesque as this invasion? In my view, it's positivity a relief that your wife simply wants to state her support. I'm sure her heart is in the right place, and that her brain is a lot less noodle like than you might think .

Started work at 7:00 this morning and typically have the news on, with the odd checking in on Sky Sports News, tis lovely to see the stories of the treatment and welcoming of Ukrainians into Poland. Warms the heart at very least and does occasionally makes inroads to restore some faith in humanity! Well done Poland! - Mike Bassett, England Manager
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Our brains have always been easily manipulated noddles, but the technology now just doesn't let us forget it. It's like the Adrian Mole club.
