Spoke to my friend in Italy yesterday. You cannot do anything unless you have a green card (COVID passport). That includes work, public transport, bars and cafes etc. This has been in place for some time a lot of protests to start with but once people realised that they were socially restricted they soon shut up and got vaccinated. This is what I was arguing we need to at least a week ago. Those who have been vaccinated have every bit as big a right to be protected from the unvaccinated as they have not to get vaccinated. Not just ourselves but the NHS who we rely on. My wife is working a night shift in a stroke ward. Imagine that place is her hospital get overwhelmed by covid patients.

That’s not the point. If a country doesn’t have “free” healthcare why should the population protect the service they do have in the way we are encouraged to support the NHS? I still don't get your point. Why does it matter if they "support" it? Surely it's whether it works which matters.

The modelling clearly suggests we are going to face problems. The NHS are already preparing contingency plans. Of course, those who know need to speak out. No-one is saying they know exactly what will happen, but that we need to be prepared. All of us. The modelling may be a tad overcooked. South Africa have had the omicron variant for at least four weeks. Why are we relying on bad modelling when hard facts are on the table? Case rates are sky high, deaths are extremely low. The WHO publish this data. [Link]

Honestly can't think of another vaccine in my lifetime where the unvaccinated are blamed for the failures of the vaccine. I mean the fact boosters (just another dose of the vaccine) are likely being rolled out every 3 months is a bit of a red flag surely? I've taken 2 covid tests in the last couple of days & both have come back negative however I'm convinced I'm coming down with it.
The mountains are calling & I must go. |

I've been keeping an eye on death rates and the number of people admitted to hospital so far they are fairly flat to slightly up but bear no relation to the huge spike in infections. I think this predictions of 6000 deaths a day are scaremongering. Keep calm and carry on get your booster and wear a mask we shall be fine.

In India in May during Delta the total was x4000 a day in a country with x13 the population, fewer hospital beds per head and only 25% vaccinated. Scaremongering? Sure looks like it.

It's 50-70 to see the doctor in Ireland, despite there being a free health service. Needless to say, I never go. I often wonder how many die due to the cost. Clearly our health service not fit for purpose, yet we're also supposed to protect it somehow.

Scare mongering has been a huge part of this whole national experience. I find myself increasingly doubtful on any statistics as they are complied differently internationally and seem so easy to manipulate. The 'with' aspect being just one example with us....it just gets accepted as 'of', when in practice that will vary. As for this latest variant it seems to be almost 'vaccine like' insomuch as it appears relatively mild while being extremely transmissible. Its main effect over time may be to effectively become endemic regardless of vaccines and hence produce the herd immunity they have tried so hard to string out. As it's never going away that's the least worse outcome. It's becoming increasingly hard for them to justify their hysteria. Edited by Stirlingsays (21 Dec 2021 9.02am)

Yes I’m beginning to turn towards reversing these restrictions and not imposing any others. I said from the start I was willing to wait and see rather than commit to either opinion on whether omicron would hospitalise thousands in England. There are factors that make it uncertain. Differences to SA in age, temperature, weather, and one of the key things imo, obesity. Oh and with our ability to keep people alive longer in old age or through bad health or unlucky health conditions. But it’s going to show more and more that this is over the top, unless everything and everyone else doesn’t matter. Trouble is I’m hearing schools might be closed in January and further restrictions might be coming next week. This is the problem since January 2021 this year. They don’t keep to their word and extend extend extend. The initial reasons I accept. It’s the unnecessary prolonging of it I don’t. [Tweet Link]
