Good luck all you to those voting today. The busy times are now until about 11am and then from 5pm onwards. Polling stations close at 10pm as long as you are inside the building at that time you can vote but I would not recommend leaving it that late. You do not need your Polling Card but it helps the staff move the queue on. You will be asked your name and address this is a legal requirement as you are making a declaration confirming your identity so please no smart ask questions like "It's on my Polling Card". Do not forget to bring photo id if you forget just pop back home. If you don't know which polling station to go to (didn't get a polling card or lost it) go to your nearest one and ask for help. They normally have a book which tells them by the street you live in. You must vote at the designated station. And please vote using the pencil (see above post).
I have just seen photos of ballot papers, people it's illegal to take photos inside a polling station especially of ballot papers. Please do not do it. Edited by Badger11 (04 Jul 2024 10.29am)

I'm sorry but this is complete nonsense with next to no basis in reality - the idea that this Labour party are remotely left wing, or will have to do what 'the hard left wants' is complete fantasy. Starmer has spent most of the last few years distancing from the left of the party, he's got rid of nearly all of the Corbyn/Momentum legacy and replaced them with centrists, and his whole campaign has been about winning middle ground voters. There are plenty of reasons to criticise Starmer; he's proven himself a liar, lacking in principle and who's only priority seems to be winning power. I've said many times on here; I can only wish Labour were offering up anything half as left-wing as many on here pretend they are. They are stuck in a 1970s time warp. I've seen folk on here talking abbot the unions all walking out the moment Labour move in. Have they not read the news for the last few years? The railways and doctors have been out for just about their whole term. It's as if the Blair/Brown years didn't happen. Labour are centrist, business friendly and supported by the City who will love the stability they bring. Obvs they will be inept all over the place but the civil service will steer them through. It will only be when they commit some utterly ridiculous act like Iraq when the walls will inevitably come crashing down. Of course, I wont vote for them. They are against free movement of EU citizens and that's me out.

But they are not against free movement of migrants from across the channel; hence the instant removal of the Rwanda deterrent as soon as they get in.
hats off to palace, they were always gonna be louder, and hate to say it but they were impressive ALL bouncing and singing. |

Just factually untrue - they have spoken against the boat crossings more times than you can count. But because they don't subscribe to a brain-dead, illegal, expensive and ineffective 'solution', it must really mean they're really in favour of it. Genuinely, how do you you allow yourself to be boxed into such a nonsense framing?

Today will be a pivotal day in our history. A little bit over the top but some of your points resonate. Certain Labour players have been suspiciously quiet during the campaign no doubt having been warned by the election team. As for the left having been thwarted by Starmer I am not convinced, they have gone silent until after the election but they are still there. We will see in the next 5 years whether Labour has become the centrist party they claim to be or whether they just put a good spin on it.

Even the Greens. It is just the method and execution that varies. Thus, the Tories have been in power for 14 years with this as a central manifesto pledge... and all they gave us was an outwardly attractive but cost ineffective fig leaf in Rwanda while the numbers increased. There must be a degree of desperate naiveté among those who actually believe it would have worked as an effective deterrent. Migrants in Calais don't and won't care a hoot about Rwanda. Reform? They must be the most effective as they are a party with this as their one and only real policy. They will divert all resources to the task. The question is: will the electorate stand for the collapse in the economy and the cliff edge decline in the provision of all other services?

Unfortunately Starmer wants to rid the possible deterrent of Rwanda and negotiate with France...which will take how long? The Rwanda scheme has been passed through both Houses, numerous appeals and is ready to go. Exhaust that route first whilst negotiating. You don't sell your car and then wait 6 months for your new one to arrive.

When Sky or the BBC (I can't remember which) did a rundown of each or the parties views on immigration, The Greens were reported as not believing in any borders and believe that migration is not an offence under any circumstances. As for the naivety of people who believe that the Rwanda deterrent would not work; no deterrent at all is not the answer. Starmer is from the legal profession. His mates can rack up some hefty bills for the UK Government whilst the next wave of migrants fight their cases here in the UK, rather than enjoying the sunshine in Rwanda.
