I just have visions of deeply disturbing atrocities committed by both sides. I see Matt and Nick in a Travel Lodge double hotel room, rubbing suntan lotion into each others genitals.

Ask yourself a question. Who are the USA's biggest allies in the Middle East? Israel and Saudi Arabia. Saudi are covert allies with Israel and it is well known that they have been egging Israel on to attack Iran, as well as secretly supporting them in the attacks on Gaza (coz Hamas are not the right sort of Muslims as far as they are concerned). The irony is that while the US says it is concerned about Muslim extremism, they prop up the Saudi dictatorship which in turn encourages the most backward looking form of Islamism. The US criticises countries all over the world for breaches of human rights (which is quite rich when you consider they themselves are holding people without trial for years after torturing them) but there is never a breath of reproach to the good old Saudis with their beheadings and absolute oppression of women. Thank you. I now realise I had not previously put enough of the blame for the spread of fundamentalist Wahhabi Islam, etc on those damn Zionists and their pervasive "agenda". Silly me thinking the massive funding by the Saudis and related states into spreading this pernicious creed in mosques worldwide coupled with events in Bosnia, Afghanistan, Chechnya and Iraq had been pivotal by far. Or about as much chance as of Wilbraham becoming a premiership level striker Seriously though, Wahhabism is seriously unpleasant stuff and the fact of the Saudis putting massive monies into "evanglical" work worldwide has zilch to do with Israel or Zionism Edited by legaleagle (05 Aug 2014 9.45pm)

Because Israel has been blockading Gaza for the last 7 years and no jihadi from here or anywhere else would stand a chance of getting in there. Syria, however, is very easily accessible via Turkey so most choose to go there. Jihadis need to be practical too y'know!

Probably because Hamas has resisted allowing foreign Jihadists. Most of its history has largely been around a Palestinian based struggle, with international funding. Back in May Hamas militants were cracking down on Salafi Jyhadist groups that were firing rockets at Israel from within Gaza. Like Fatah before them, they're quite keen on avoiding the problems inherent with utilising foreign volunteers and Al-Queda affiliated groups (ie ones with loyalty beyond Palestine). The Muhajireen Brigade isn't particularly popular with either Fatah or Hamas (nor are groups like ISIS). Hamas relationship with even the likes of Hezbollah is tetchy.

They make the rockets themselves. Mostly, although the borders with Syria and Jordan are fairly loose (in terms of the West Bank) and the same applies to Egypt for Gaza. For the most part though the missiles are probably better described as home made rockets.
