I can't help by imagine what might be going on behind the scenes in a The Thick of It kind of way. Malcolm Tucker would be loving this.

I think the problem here is that May is too much into trying to keep her job and too little into getting the best deal for the country.

Only the "least bad". And as mentioned before, I'm no fan of the woman, but she is at least as capable as Cameron. "Deliver Brexit" is the kind of brief that sent the likes Of Bojo and other leading "leave campaigners" running for the hills once Cameron resigned and they realised that whoever took the Tory leadership actually would have to deliver on it. With no firm brief to boot.

Just needed to add that the whole Brexit debacle is an embarrassment to the UK. Voters got the chance to vote between remain (the known quantity) and leave, which was not defined in any way, shape, or form. It's a blank canvas that whoever the PM is can fulfill in any of hundreds of ways. As the results of of the Brexit referendum where known, analysts were saying that the EU would have trouble putting together a united front, while the UK had a singular one. But the exact opposite has been proved true, the other 27 members of the EU have united to back a single position, while the UK's position can be described as "uncertain" at best, and personally I would describe as a s***storm. The referendum should never have happened in the form it did. It was inviting people to vote emotively on a binary proposition, with no clear outcome defined (on the leave side at least). I'm not saying the people shouldn't be consulted (I believe they should), but it was handled so cack-handedly. Frankly, I think we deserve what we get, whatever that might be. But this was a junior-school approach to determining the economic (and to some degree political) future of what is still (for now) one of the most influential and prominent countries in the world. And that is unforgivable. To propose something like this with no alternative plan in place is mind boggling. The truth is there was no alternative proposition in place before people went to the polls. And that is beyond idiocy IMO.
