Of course you're correct, but then place it in proper context...a country unsure of its future vs one that is a dominating force in the EU; then it doesnt look half as good as you make out. Considering the Euro levels are favourable for exporting from within the Eu at the moment...its not the best set of results...also don't forget the rise of nationalism in Germany as well... they will clearly prey on this (just like UKIP)...and then see what happens.

It's not stellar but it's not a disaster There is no doubt the emissions scandal has hit the economy and will continue to do so. There are multiple legal actions going on to claim damages which will take a while to play through the system. I suspect Brexit and Trump are also not helping right at the moment, much uncertainty. But I seriously doubt Germany is 'in trouble'. The rise of nationalism is a global phenomenon. As Stirling says, not to my tastes. I have hugely enjoyed working throughout the world and would regret it should my children not have similar opportunities. It is highly enlightening to have to reserve judgement and avoid being opinionated whilst you work out how another culture ticks.

The best guess that I have seen from all sides appears to be short term pain, medium term pain, possible but indeterminable long term benefit. Mine was based on governance not economics

The worst thing for the EU at the minute would be for a country who leaves doing well....

Can't disagree with that The EU should have been more tuned in to the popular opinions two years ago and shown some flexibility in the run-up to the vote. Corbyn and the EU seem to have got away without significant criticism when in reality they should shoulder much of the blame.

It's been an absolute f*cking sh*tshow from the day that the referendum was announced and it's just embarrassing. This is going to affect so many people's lives in a way that they don't quite fully realise yet, all because of a 3 year long game of comparing cocks. We should have done it in reverse. Leave the day after the vote and negotiate it all after. You could put any deal on the table and people are still going to moan about part of or all of it. Trying to get an agreement before exiting has been ball ache, which is why most people just want it over with now, no matter what deal happens or doesn't.

I am guessing your aren't an expert negotiator Stu. Still, those experts, pah.
