Again, it all depends on many factors!

What do you think?

I think I was pretty clear. I have no problem with higher wages if you can afford it. On The Khan thread I pointed out that TFL has a deficit issue and maybe this isn't the time for a 4% increase. Anyway it is up to the Mayor to square the circle.

It's down to who has to stump up for the pay rises? The business owner(s) or the tax payer – ie all of US!

If a business has a large debt, it certainly wouldn't be sensible to hand out pay rises to staff (TfL).

Probably doesn't have a choice, they could call a strike or lose staff

I'm sure if an employer could pay staff 1p they would!

I don't think that is true, low wages equals low productivity and ours is abysmal.

The CIPD report said that wages were not expected to rise by more than 2%, less than inflation, by September 2019.

Wages have been depressed so long.

You would have to ask Boris why he did it

I was wondering if when he originally struck the deal there was some form of quid pro quo. Historically TFL had agreed not to make any redundancies and it had lots of people sitting at home on pay but not working. Not the most accommodating Union.

BBC is reporting a deal is done and the Maybot is now in overdrive to convince the cabinet.

[Link]

I wonder if in 30years time we will find out that this deal was done months ago and was held back for political reasons? Chances are I wont be around so I have to rely on you youngsters to cry foul.

However, the ONS warned that real wage growth was below the 2015 level.

The unemployment total went up for the first time this year, rising by 21,000 in the same period to 1.38 million.

Wages are not expected to rise by more than 2% by September next year.

Less than inflation, and for the 10th year running.

And so harmful to productivity, our biggest problem IMO.

Here is the Prime Minsiter's statement on the matter

"This morning I had another talk with the German Chancellor, Herr Hitler, and here is the paper "

Well I suspect that the Prime Minster has managed to unite the country Remain or Brexit I think we are all going to hate the deal.

Just listening to the media and most folk who claim to be in the know think May has no chance of getting this through Parliament.

I would love to know what the EU really think. If they never wanted a deal then well played because Mrs May will take the blame for this not them. If they do want a deal they have miscalculated. Unless she pulls off a miracle Mrs May is toast and the new PM may not be a Remainer in which case the EU may regret not offering May a better deal in the first place.
