Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry. |

Interesting article that Teddy. Explains a lot. Big Pharma is watching you and most probably trying it’s hardest to influence you. There must be balance and just because you shout loudest doesn’t mean you are right. There are a few too many flat earthers on here with little vision of the bigger picture.

I do disagree that the government haven't encouraged that belief and think the entire notion of vaccine passports is founded on the principle of unvaccinated people posing a threat to your health, which surely implies that vaccinated people do not. Sadly my mother-in-law was only in her early 60s and, despite her ill-health, probably would have had a decade at least left. We all knew that if and when she caught it she would probably struggle to survive though and it was for that reason that she stopped leaving the house and was only exposed to the vaccinated. It was, sadly, a horrific death. She effectively suffocated over a number of days as her lungs gradually failed and she had blood pouring from her mouth, nose and ears and she drew her final, laboured breaths. We have two young children and I think the hardest thing for my wife and her siblings to process, other than those haunting final moments, is that she will never see them grow up, it's been heartbreaking to see them suffer that grief. To be honest I'm just very pissed off at the moment. Angry that so many people must be going through similar things and even angrier that this government are seemingly using it a means of exploiting the nation to gain greater control and erode our rights and freedoms. That's why I won't buy into the narrative of vaccination being a heroic gesture, it's coercive control on a mass scale. I hope your graphic description of your mother-in-law's last days I thought about your wife and kids when first reading your story and have the deepest sympathy for them. I hope they come to terms in time and treasure their memories. I can understand you feeling pissed off but hope that too dissipates with time. I am no fan of this government but don't believe there is any kind of desire for more general "control". I just think we face an exceptional situation which demands an exceptional response. I too don't see vaccination as a heroic gesture, but rather as a common sense contribution that we can all make.

Whilst the article makes some valid points as the need to try to counteract the impact of misinformation evolves, it does not contradict the science in any way at all.

It is interesting, but how on earth you reach your conclusion beats me. It is simply arguing that the way the social media companies are filtering out misinformation is catching some things that are actually valuable and valid contributions to the debate. It calls for refinement, not abandonment.

(Taps desk waiting for when it’s time to reverse all of this) The R rate in SA is dropping fast so the cases chart is levelling off at what hopefully is the top. Unfortunately we’ll have to wait to see that the elderly, clinically vulnerable, and the fatties aren’t ringing 999 or worse. It’s those who know they’re more at risk who don’t get vaccinated make me shake my head. Most other vaccinated who aren’t likely to suffer aren’t really the issue, but of course they show up in the numbers and the political parties are shying away from tackling or addressing where the unvaccinated numbers are a risk, and that’s while Starmer tries to appeal to the public he’s patriotic and getting vaccinated is the patriotic thing to do. There is a break in the thinking here, but I won’t say it just as the politicians won’t address some of the more at risk groups not interested in vaccination.

Hopefully that is correct although the other day I saw a report that said they had mislaid many thousands of cases so there numbers may be suspect.
