His best goal at Selhurst was him bullying out Ward running onto goal and swiping past the goalie for Villa. Think they might be one if only club keen on him. Seen nothing like that from him for an age. Doesn't seem to want to throw himself about like that, individually crafting a chance, which unfortunately due to our lack of attacking options, is exactly what Ayew had to do last season. if he did think the fans might just warm to him, even with a few extra bookings. Only way I feel he can rediscover this is possibly go to another club where he wants to prove himself. Whether it is team orders or not he is looking extremely ineffective here.

I remember that goal but slightly differently.
Trekkers put a block in on Scott Dann's attempted clearance on the far right touch line (where Wardy should've been).
It made a lovely loud smacking sound.
The ball looped towards the goal but Tekkers sprinted far quicker than Dann could recover and collected the ball as it span back a bit.
Then he did the job we've all been craving he'll repeat on a regular basis.

May be I'm just getting pessimistic in my old age. Every transfer window we seem to get linked with a few promising players, only for none of them to appear. I wonder if we leak news that we are interested, perhaps even make a very low bid that it then helps Steve when he comes out with 'we tried to get a few across the line' at the end of the window and have failed.

Personally I only believe it when you see the player holding up the shirt. What's the possibility of none of Eze, Watkins, Fraser etc happening? Decent I would imagine.

After 3 seasons of scrimping, I can't see what has changed, for us to suddenly start splashing the cash.

Hard to disagree.

My hope is that we are on a ' spending cycle ' this year, something that Parish alluded to some years ago now.

Otherwise we need to sell to fund any purchases.

We seem to be going off topic a bit but regarding Benteke, I remember him taking a pen at the whitehorse lane end and just gently chipping it down the middle but it was so slow the keeper had time time reposition himself and still wait for the ball to arrive.I cant remember if it cost us 1 or 2 points or who it was against but he got abuse when the game ended and I dont think that hes played well since. Perhaps someone with a better memory could fill in the gaps.

So is this Fraser deal actually happening? 3/1 still available on him joining us if so, the second a story is published saying we're in talks with him that price will go.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

Very good odds. Bookies can be wrong but 3/1 would seem to make the signing unlikely.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

Hopefully we'll get this Benteke back next season. We can always dream. That was a truly awful match I remember.

You are right, not sure why I thought it was Ward. As you say he did look the part that night. Don't think his experience at Liverpool helped, as he struggled there too.

I can't fill in the gaps. All I remember is that his "technique" - slow run-up and a slight feint - looked the same as when he broke our hearts by scoring a last-minute penalty for Liverpool one Sunday afternoon in that same goal. Trouble this time was that he did it at about a quarter-speed. My other memory, which would have been repeated all round the ground, was my neighbour shouting FFS HIT IT. Sorry, not much help I'm afraid.

Clubs weren't falling over themselves to sign Nathan Ferguson either !

What’s your point? West Brom were desperate to keep him, that’s enough isn’t it?

With the greatest respect, my comment was in response to a post about a player not being in demand by clubs wishing to add him to their books and I drew parallels with Ferguson.
