IMHO, whilst I understand the eyes on Carrick, and yes he has done very well indeed (plus I always liked him as a player), football for me is always too reactive to flavours of the month (or several) and this would represent a very premature decision to me. You always get those players whose careers go downhill after too much focus following a good debut/few games - 'peaking young', players proving bad signings when procured following a World Cup or a solitary good season and now managers who do well in often a lesser context for a short period but they're suddenly considered worthy of taking over at a PL team despite very little experience. I would be surprised if following other misadventures the Palace Board would once again jump straight into employing somebody who barely has half a century of games as a manager. My gast would be well and truly flabbered.

And whilst he has show that he is able to motivate and coach a team to perform to a more fitting level. He hasn't got experience of some of the things we'd need, that you get with time in the game. Vieira is a good example of that. He's shown both in France and with us that he can play some nice football and hit the ground running. But with both clubs the wheels fell off, and he's not shown he has the ability to get things back on track. We need managers that have demonstrable evidence of being able to do the job we need done, and has experience in overcoming the challenges we are likely to face

I agree it's not likely, and if it's true he was interviewed for the Palace job and turned us down, then he can take a running jump. But leaving that aside, I think he's kept his nerve at Chelsea and in my opinion has a first class football brain. And keeping so many randomly assembled football talents in order and sorting out a coherent team is a great challenge which I think he's succeeding in. He is the worst manager ever. Talk to Chelsea fans. The main reason for the mess they are in now is the condition of the club he left behind the scenes last time. Rudiger is a perfect example. He absolutely loved playing for Chelsea and living in London. After the way Lampard treated him as a scapegoat and isolated him from the first team he vowed to leave at the very first opportunity. Since Chelsea refused to sell he waited till his contract expired and walked on a free. He wouldn't even re sign after Lampard had left. Such was his disappointment at the way Lampard treated him (and the club failed to rectify). Rudiger is just one of many. Lampard is a poor man manager, a poor tactician and an arrogant bloke to go with it. But its not Frank's fault.....

I personally would want to give Hodgson a year extension as he's done a brilliant job and has unrivalled experience of both Palace and the PL. If Parish doesn't do that, then I do hope he and Ray will have an advisory role. The choice of who will be the next manager is clearly crucial. If Carrick doesn't get promotion with Middlesbrough I think he'd be excellent. Other than that, we need a manager a proven success in another top league. It didn't work with Vieira, so ....Lampard has been a top player with PL experience and a decent amount of experience as manager. So (personal opinion) he'd be on my shortlist ! Wow! how many games would he have to lose with the most expensive squad in the world to take him off your shortlist. I think the world is going mad, I see a post like this and realise its already happened!

Wow, not only do you put the most negative (and largely wrong) spin on it you most definitely sound much more of a Pulis/Allardyce fan than a Palace one.
I am a fan of both for what they did for the club. Did I say he would turn it down today no I didn't I said he did before (would he turn it down now if offered it maybe he must have seen something before which he didn't like) Originally posted by Spiderman
Again ridiculous post. Most of the money for the Academy came from the sale of AWB, an academy graduate. Look at the results of the Academy teams, there are several outstanding prospects but it takes time for them to progress.
You really do kiss the guys arse. No the money came from the source I said AWB money was gone. Academy results how many trophies have they won in top flight of the youth setup and how many have been sold or made it through to first team? Edited by grumpymort (10 May 2023 3.52pm)

Edited by grumpymort (10 May 2023 3.52pm) Of course Palace needed the American investors. Of the ' 2010 ' group, Browett doesn't have the kind of wealth needed, and Hosking and Long didn't want to put any more money in. Whatever the source of funds, the Academy development and Cat 1 status serves two purposes ; compliance with Premier League forthcoming regulations and the ability to compete for the best talent by offering top class facilities. As for the youth team winning trophies, while that is a nice to have, it's about developing players good enough to compete for a first team place or be sold on, as you correctly state. I would say that as a club we are still at an early stage of that kind of development.

Fascinating article in the Athletic on Arne Slot who has just won the Dutch league with Feyenoord (only their second title this century). He prefers to work with young players and has brought players from the lower division/Academy into the squad to replace players sold to PL clubs and seen those youngsters make the Dutch national squad. A variety of coaches and players in the Netherlands speak highly of both his man-management skills and his ability to improve players He seems the right kind of person for a project like ours, if the board decide to take a punt on a foreign manager with no PL experience.
