Fraser wanted to leave Bournemouth and this was supposedly because he, like Zaha, wanted to play for a bigger club. The question is, how long is he going to hold out for to see if a bigger club wants him? Palace are not exactly a step up from Bournemouth. Personally I don't see any deal happening for Fraser before September, that's if there is any real interest from either side anyway. I think there are also big question marks over whether he can justify a high wage, too. A reliable Palace journalist has previously said that Palace are willing to play the waiting game on the Eze front to get a better deal, which might annoy us, but if it works then so be it. Personally I think this one will happen and the news of interest from Spam and others is an attempt by QPR to try and push us into offering more. Villa have supposedly bid 18m for Watkins, and I imagine would be able to go a bit higher if needs be, which I think will end our interest in him. Deulofeu stated himself that he wants to leave Watford, but in the same interview says he's interested in returning to Milan. Great player on his day but I don't see him coming to us. If you read the many articles that pop-up on Newsnow you can start to build your picture and make your own guesses. The club itself has previously said much of what you read is made up nonsense, and I imagine that is even more the case this year. With all the financial issues I would think clubs are keen to keep their cards close to their chest to ensure they get the best deals.

It was Dean Smith the A.Villa manager who signed Watkins for Brentford, for £1.8 Mill. Edited by Willo (21 Aug 2020 9.16am)

Morning All, Fraser is nearly a done deal terms all agreed as long as no one matches Palace’s contract offer then deal should be completed. Someone asked me about Eze, Palace still in pole position but this could go to the wire as Palace are determined to get him for price they want & believe they will get their man. My personal opinion still remains that Eze will be a Palace Player just can’t give a definite date when completed. The young CB is close as well few nearly agreed so Faser & CB could our next 2 deals.

It's all about the money in any case. If we offer Fraser a deal that's attractive to him, he'll sign. As for the Eze waiting game, he's been touted as one of the most talented players in the Championship but it's interesting that clubs aren't falling over themselves to sign him. I imagine Watkins will want to hook up with Dean Smith again, if they can get a fee agreed so I don't see him coming to Palace

Hi Dazza This is reassuring and many thanks for keeping us posted. There is no immediate sign that Wilf is going, but I suppose once Nelson is signed it might be that the process of Wilf leaving might speed up? Good news about the young CB, but have resigned myself to it not being Pollock! If Eze did finally make it to Selhurst, plus Nelson and a young CB, that would make it a decent window? If Wilf did go that would leave a huge gap and we still might struggle? And we do need another striker. There are still gaps obviously. But there are still two loan signings to plug them.

I wonder how long Fraser will hold out for - ie. seeing if a better offer or club come in for him ? Is the offer from Palace time-limited - ie. will we withdraw the offer if he waits too long. We could use those wages/funds elsewhere.

If deals can be agreed, will we sign both Eze and Fraser or will one scupper the other and we’ll look to spend money strengthening elsewhere in the squad?

I have seen him score goals for A.Villa in this situation showing a calmness and finishing ability we haven't seen from him since his first season with us. His best goal at Selhurst was him bullying out Ward running onto goal and swiping past the goalie for Villa. Think they might be one if only club keen on him. Seen nothing like that from him for an age. Doesn't seem to want to throw himself about like that, individually crafting a chance, which unfortunately due to our lack of attacking options, is exactly what Ayew had to do last season. if he did think the fans might just warm to him, even with a few extra bookings. Only way I feel he can rediscover this is possibly go to another club where he wants to prove himself. Whether it is team orders or not he is looking extremely ineffective here.

May be I'm just getting pessimistic in my old age. Every transfer window we seem to get linked with a few promising players, only for none of them to appear. I wonder if we leak news that we are interested, perhaps even make a very low bid that it then helps Steve when he comes out with 'we tried to get a few across the line' at the end of the window and have failed. Personally I only believe it when you see the player holding up the shirt. What's the possibility of none of Eze, Watkins, Fraser etc happening? Decent I would imagine. After 3 seasons of scrimping, I can't see what has changed, for us to suddenly start splashing the cash.
