From a few of your posts on this Dave you make it sound like you don't want it to happen and you would rather SP failed? SP would not have put this into the public arena if he didn't think it would have a good chance of making it through planning. The one thing you do not do in a PR world is build up expectation beyond what can be delivered as it always backfires on you. I can't believe he would make such an error with something as large as this. Let's see what happens, but I have to say I would be extremely disappointed if a lot of the background work with both Councillors and planning officers has not already been done and the principle generally established. It would be such a retrograde step for the community as a whole if this opportunity was wasted. This will bring jobs and much needed investment into the area. Sainsburys are also being very backward if they do not see the positives surrounding this scheme but I don't know their official position so can't really comment.

Posts criticising realistic posts that are concerned about situations because they're not lapping up everything they hear never stop. He hasn't put it through because he's sure it'll go through. He's put it through to pile pressure on others in the hope it will go through. Quite a difference there and it isn't just planning, it's Sainsburys and then owning the land we need to build on.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave have to agree with Rudi and Bexley on their stance tbh...even though I know that SP and Palace have been engaging "stakeholders" (as they'd put it) in the process up to this point. SP has a habit of using the publicity to push the agenda if it's stalling rather than allowing due process to be undertaken behind the scenes...ultimately whether we agree on this approach or not it certainly gets the conversation moving and will undoubtedly place a certain pressure on the likes of Sainsbury's and Croydon to make a decision either way.

Sainsbury’s in Crayford, Dave? Mrs YT and I used to combine a trip there with a visit to the dog track next door. I know how to treat a lady!

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave I guess Parish and the yanks sat down and thought: is it more or less helpful if we try to do this in collaboration with local stakeholders, and they came to the conclusion it wasn't a good move. For one thing, they might have had howls of protest at every last detail, when in practice it's not a democratic decision or outcome that we want here. It's to return the footprint of the club to former glories and, on that footprint, build a great stadium that can earn some money. Had they been loving and inclusive, then Sainsbury's, with it's own set of formidable set of Suits, could have been working on PR spin, legal responses and counter lobbying all along. Perhaps better to go for the ramrod approach with finished plans. Doesn't mean it'll work, though I do genuinely think this will be a hard one for the local council to knock back -- at least in some form or other.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave Do you assume there is a chance that we would get planning permission to go "high" for the AW? On the current height of the stand, I can see no way capacity could be increased, on the contrary it would actually go down with current requirements for seat size. Guess the club could start purchasing the houses opposite the stand, just like the ugly mugs in Liverpool did who bought them and boarded them up. Originally posted by Ginger Pubic Wig
This project, if it proceeds, takes us to ~34k. We can test the water with that (i.e. can we fill the enlarged stadium) and get revenue up by 15m allegedly, (I say allegedly because I've not seen that figure given by the club myself, but then I've not watched all the vidoes). I find that estimate absolutely extraordinarily high, but hey-ho. If correct & successful & we don't have a post-Brexit economic crash that destroys the Premier League, that will take us up a notch as a club (and that stand will be huge within the context of Selhurst.) And at 15% of the capital cost, the extra revenues also seem to offer scope for a little return on investment for the Americans (and give them a better asset to sell). If we are filling our part of 34k routinely, then we can consider another expansion. I believe the club has said the White Horse would be done. If they can add a tier (another 2k, let's say) then we are up to 36k. They might even manage that without closing it for a season, I'm guessing/wondering if I read somewhere. The big, big test will be the AW. Can't see them managing that without eating massively into the gates for at least a season. But if they did rebuild it, we could get above 40k potentially -- testing local appetite for tickets throughout, and not suddenly having a far bigger capacity filled with disinterested tourists. My guess is that the footprint as is could take low 40s stadium capacity, and getting there in stages is boringly sensible. Edited by DutchEagleJohan (05 Dec 2017 12.37pm)

I think -- and I may be wildly wrong -- that they could go further into the corners and they could go two tier but shallower. Locals wouldn't lose any sunlight because the stand would be further from their homes. They might lose a bit of view from their upper bedrooms.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave On another subject, and I have not read through all the plans, do we assume the TV cameras will now be located in the new stand? If so, there is a plus and a minus to this arrangement. The major plus being that cameras will be rolling with the sun behind instead of at the cameras But the considerable minus is they will be filming with the AW as the background, which will be the oldest stand of the four.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave The biggest problem for Parish is as far as I can see he has little leverage over the council. Whilst they'd be foolish to not get behind such an exciting plan, it's by no means a foregone conclusion. From what I understand, Steve Parish explored options of moving grounds and this was impossible due to other local councils and finance. It's tough to apply pressure on the person opposite at the table when you have very little alternatives to the grand plan, Croydon will know this and so will Sainsburys. It must be said, one of my initial thoughts after admiring the beauty of the design, was that there seemed to be a whole lot of space surrounding the ground that's seemingly appeared from thin air. I think everyone can agree we all wanna see this go through, but blindly putting your fingers in your ears to the potential pitfalls and shouting down any who still have some skepticism doesn't remove the realities of the situation.
