You'd end up with loads of bankrupt pensioners. My parents live in an affluent Surrey suburb and they paid about £8,500 for their house some forty years ago. The house is now approaching your target value of £1m but my 91 year old mother couldn't afford to pay any more Council Tax out of her pension and I'm guessing that her whole road is in a similar position When your mother was young, property was affordable, young people now don't have the same advantages. It should be passed down or release the equity

I wouldn't change income tax, i'm talking more about property taxes. I would put a tax on people with 2nd properties and increase council tax on properties over £1m. Use that to tackle homelessness and put into improving social housing At the end of the day we have huge wealth in London and many expensive properties out of the reach of ordinary people, yet homelessness is at record levels and we allowed Grenfell to happen in one of the richest parts of the country. Big social imbalance, it's time to redress that People with second properties are already taxed more. Research it. The populist 'tax the rich' nonsense on the left still leaves a massive shortfall. How do you get the rest of the money?

Seriously!!!

Why is trying to create fairness in the property market nonsense? At the end of the day we are a rich country, there is alot of wealth in London, so much so that ordinary people have been priced out, people on an average wage cannot get onto the property ladder, there is a chronic lack of social housing and homelessness is at record levels. So that imbalance needs to be redressed. No one is trying to bash the rich, just want to narrow that wealth gap and create a fairer, inclusive society for everyone Why are you and so many others so quick to defend the rich anyway? sounds like you've swallowed the same 'it's all the immigrants fault' pill.

I do dislike people like Sean Connery campaigning for the SNP and their high tax regime when he hasn't paid UK tax since the 1960's. As long as Hamilton and Farah keep their political views private fair enough. If they start campaigning for the Remain camp then they will earn my ire.

I meant that we are far more mobile than our parents were and travel is a lot more easier e.g. you can live in France and commute to England.

Stop bailing-out privately owned banks with money borrowed (with interest!) from another privately owned bank (BoE) would be a start. We'd be in a far batter position now had we let the fookers rot 10yrs ago. But that's not the way the game is played.
